Work Arrangement: Hybrid - 3 days/week in the SEO office at 3401 N Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33127

This is a full-time, exempt position with a hybrid schedule requiring in-person work three days a week (including required Saturdays) and virtual work two days a week. The typical weekly schedule is as follows:

Fall Term: Tuesday through Saturday (3x a month); Monday through Friday (1x month)

Spring Term: Tuesday through Saturday (3x a month); Monday through Friday (1x

month)

Summer Term: Monday through Friday

In-person attendance is required for all Community Day programming dates

Two weeks of in-person attendance will be required during our College Application

Bootcamp programming from mid to late July

Work requires local travel beyond the office for Saturday programming at the following locations (subject to change):

SEO Scholars is a free, eight-year, academic program that transforms public high school students in New York City, San Francisco, North Carolina, and Miami into college graduates. SEO Scholars successfully educates and mentors students to and through college. 100% of Scholars are accepted into four-year colleges, 85% of Scholars graduate with a Bachelor’s degree, and 80% are first-generation college graduates. POSITION OVERVIEW

The 10th Grade Scholars Advisor will join the founding program team of the SEO Scholars Miami expansion site. The position will partner closely with peers locally and nationally to manage the advisement and performance of a cohort of 60-70 public high school sophomores. Through group facilitation, workshops, community circles, class observations, and 1-on-1 advising, you will help Scholars develop holistically. Beyond ensuring a rigorous academic environment, you will be tasked with effectively building the academic and socio-emotional foundation to successfully navigate high school, college, and career, including but not limited to our Scholars’ academic mindsets, effective study habits, awareness of identity, and SEL skills.

Program Development & Management

Assist in the recruitment process that meets the target application numbers and demographic goals.

Coordinate with supervisor and program operations personnel and implement hybrid SEO Scholars programming on Saturdays online and in-person and after school online in the fall and spring semesters, and online and in-person during the summer for five weeks.

On Saturdays, monitor attendance and follow up with Scholars and families regarding absences, lateness, and excused absences; lead Opening Circle (OC) with high-energy execution.

Monitor the performance and engagement of all Scholars in the assigned cohort; track and analyze Scholar attendance, assignment completion, assessments and grades in SEO Scholars classes, high school courses, and standardized test scores.

Upload and update Scholar information into Salesforce for 10th Grade Scholar caseload, such as updating official program enrollment status.

Help plan and facilitate community day/community time (in-person and online) throughout the year.

Track progress and manage qualitative and quantitative data to make evidence-based decisions to improve Scholar performance and engagement, including making recommendations and ensuring that Scholars successfully follow through with additional support and services. Engage parents, guardians, and school partners as needed to improve student performance and retention.

Manage/update information in Brightspace including but not limited to updating the calendar, posting flyers for community day and community time, advertising instructor office hours, and using Brightspace assignment completion and attendance data to inform proactive academic advising of Scholars.

Collaborate with 9th and 11th grade Scholar Advisors to transition Scholars into and from the 10th grade each summer; Lead effective transition meetings with the 11th-grade team to support a successful transition of Scholars between grade levels.

Collaborate with the National C&I team. Specifically, work with the Online Learning (OL) team around Brightspace and other E-learning resources and the Teaching & Learning (TL) team for anything instructor-related.

Collaborates with C&I’s Teaching and Learning team on various academic program elements including, but not limited to, grade audits and scholar attendance.

Support Scholars by referring Scholars to IT support email as needed.

Assist with the planning, coordinating, and supervising of occasional trips (e.g. college tours).

Performs other duties as assigned.

Scholar Advising & Coaching Support

Create and nurture an environment that encourages intellectual curiosity; an inclusive, close-knit, and supportive community; academic excellence, and college readiness, and a college-going culture.

Provide online academic advising to all Scholars in their assigned cohort through academic advising hours, conduct meetings for students and parents, and meet with Scholars 1:1 or in small groups.

Develop and refine advisory content, including whole group, small group, and one-on one advising content based on feedback from assigned cohort and in collaboration with the larger team.

Leverage data to develop proactive academic advising strategies that provide socio emotional guidance, advising, and support to ensure high scholar persistence and retention for SEO Scholars and continued student academic success at their high school.

Facilitate weekly/bi-weekly instructor check-in meetings to gather information about Scholar performance and advise on action plans to support Scholars. Collaborate with the Scholars Curriculum & Instruction (C&I) team and instructors to support Scholars for successful completion of coursework.

Family, School & Community Partnership Engagement

Foster and maintain relationships with parents, guardians, school partners, volunteers, and community/corporate partners as needed to improve student experience, performance, and retention.

Build and maintain relationships with parents, school counselors/advisors, teachers, and community partners in support of Scholars’ success.

Advocate for Scholars with families and within school settings when appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree required.

Direct experience working with high school-age students. 2+ years’ public teaching experience strongly preferred.

A background in student coaching and advising, including direct experience interfacing with parents and families.

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

Knowledge of the Florida public college system and top ranked private colleges preferred

Strong work ethic and positive attitude

Demonstrated ability to execute on short-term, deadline-driven tasks, as well as important long- term projects requiring collaboration with internal and external constituencies

Adept at building authentic relationships with students quickly

Ability to conduct difficult conversations with Scholars and families to give honest, productive feedback

Excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of professionalism

Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral

Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Google Suite

Must be data driven. Knowledge of Excel and experience working with Salesforce (database) and Brightspace (LMS) are a plus

Bilingual Spanish/English preferred; Haitian-Creole is a plus
