Job Description

The School of Social Work at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for an Academic Advisor 2. This position plays a key role in supporting student success through academic advising, admissions, recruitment, retention initiatives, and student-centered programming.

The Academic Advisor 2 provides comprehensive academic advising and student support to undergraduate Social Work students throughout their academic journey. This position assists students with academic planning, course selection and scheduling, progression requirements, degree completion, and preparation for admission to and success within Social Work programs. The Academic Advisor 2 serves as a primary resource for students regarding Social Work program requirements, University policies and procedures, and available student support services.

The successful candidate will advise a diverse population of students, including incoming first-year students, transfer students, online students, students participating in academic recovery, and continuing students. The position will support pre-major Social Work students as they navigate the BSW Professional Sequence application process, providing individualized guidance and helping students understand and meet program requirements.

Additional responsibilities include developing targeted advising and intervention strategies to promote student persistence and success; participating in student recruitment, outreach, and engagement activities; collaborating with faculty, staff, and campus partners on student success initiatives; and building relationships with community partners to promote Social Work education.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and (2) two years of related work experience or a Master’s Degree and (1) one year of related work experience.

Related experience: Academic advising, teaching, student services, social work, or related.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience advising students in higher education.

Licensure

A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license within 30 days of appointment.
