ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE (MIDWIFE)

About the Position: This position is located at Naval Hospital, Directorate of Surgery, OB/GYN, Camp Pendleton, CA. Advance in Hire MAY be authorized. This is available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Advance Leave Accrual MAY be authorized. A recruitment/relocation incentive MAY be authorized. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

• •Independent management of low- and moderate-risk intrapartum patients performing ongoing assessment of maternal and fetal status, labor progress, and interventions.
• •Co-management of complicated obstetrical patients with Obstetrician oversight.
• •Supervision and teaching of physician residents in management of intrapartum patients.
• •Develops and provides patient-centered education and counseling regarding the antepartum course, preventative health, and self-care.
• •Performs initial and ongoing risk assessments, interprets diagnostic data and laboratory results, and manages common obstetric complications.
• •Identifies and treats postpartum complications such as pain, urological complaints, bleeding abnormalities, hormonal dysfunction and infections.
• •Participate in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice implementation, or clinical protocol development.
• •Utilize electronic health records such as MHS Genesis for documentation, order entry, and/or care coordination.
• •Collaborates with a variety of health providers such as obstetricians, pediatrics anesthesiology, and/or nursing staff.
• •Provision of full-scope gynecologic services such as well women exams, contraceptive care, preventative health screenings, and family planning.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Midwife): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND Degree for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Positions: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in Midwifery. OR Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, applicants must possess licensure or registration by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in Midwifery. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional experience which includes performing physical exams on obstetric, gynecologic and/or neonatal patients, performing or ordering laboratory tests, providing postpartum care, and educating patients or staff. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11) Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
