Appian Integration Engineer

The Integration Engineer will own the integration and data-migration layer of a federal case management modernization built on the Appian platform. You will design and build secure, traceable, API-based integrations between Appian and federal HR systems of record, and lead the data migration and decommissioning of a legacy .NET/SQL Server application — including its reporting. This is a hands-on engineering role for an integration and API expert who has already built integrations and Web APIs in Appian and wants to go deeper.

Job Location: Remote work is authorized. Must support US Eastern time zone working hours.

What You Will Do

• •Design and build inbound and outbound integrations in Appian — Connected Systems, Integration objects, Web APIs, and synced record types — against REST and SOAP services, using API keys, OAuth 2.0, and service accounts appropriately.
• •Establish the integration patterns the team builds to: incremental (watermark) synchronization, idempotent upserts, retry and back-off, correlation IDs, reconciliation queues for changes that cannot be applied automatically, and per-run audit logging.
• •Produce and maintain API contracts and interface control documents; work directly with system-of-record owners to obtain, validate, and align to their API documentation and test environments.
• •Lead the migration out of a legacy .NET/SQL Server application: data profiling, source-to-target mapping, transformation and cleansing, validation and reconciliation, cutover planning, and migration of its reports to Power BI.
• •Implement data-quality checks, validation, monitoring, and traceability so integration health is visible in the client's enterprise monitoring tools and failures are actionable.
• •Tune integration and data-movement performance against defined service levels for response time, error rate, and availability.
• •Build within a DevSecOps pipeline (source control, automated tests, code quality scanning) and contribute integration test coverage.
• •Collaborate with the Appian architect, developers, testers, data governance personnel, and government subject-matter experts in an Agile (Scrum) delivery team.

Required Skills:

• •Candidate must reside in the U.S., be authorized to work in the U.S., and all work must be performed in the U.S.
• •Candidate must have lived in the U.S. for three (3) full years out of the last five (5) years.
• •Candidate must be able to pass a successful Public Trust background check.
• •US Citizenship is required by the federal government for this position.
• •Minimum five years of experience designing, building, and operating system integrations and APIs (REST/SOAP), including authentication, error handling, and monitoring.
• •Hands-on experience building integrations and/or Web APIs in Appian (Connected Systems, Integration objects, Web API objects, record types) in at least one delivered project. Appian certification is not required.
• •Strong SQL skills and experience migrating data out of relational systems, including source-to-target mapping, transformation, validation, and reconciliation.

Desired Skills:

• •Bachelor's degree in a related field; directly related experience may be considered in place of education.
• •Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and with modernizing or decommissioning .NET applications.
• •Experience integrating with federal HR systems of record (for example, USA Staffing, HR Connect, or similar OPM/Treasury shared services).
• •Experience migrating operational reporting to Power BI.
• •Experience with OpenAPI/Swagger, API gateways, and API security practices (OAuth 2.0, key management, mTLS).
• •Scripting or programming in at least one of Python, Java, or JavaScript for transformation, testing, or automation.
• •Familiarity with CI/CD and quality tooling such as GitLab, Jenkins, SonarQube, and JMeter, and with log/monitoring platforms such as Splunk.
• •Appian Associate or Senior Developer certification; AWS or Azure certification.
• •Experience with FedRAMP-hosted or GovCloud environments and federal ATO processes.
• •Ability to work effectively in Agile delivery teams and collaborate with government and contractor stakeholders.
• •Clear written and verbal communication skills, strong organization, and attention to detail.
