Assistant Accountant

The Role:

The Assistant Accountant will take full responsibility for the company payroll for all employees and will support the finance team with day-to-day accounting. The role reports to the Finance Director and handles payroll processing, HMRC and pension submissions, bank and card postings, purchase invoice approval and supplier payment runs.

Responsibilities:

Payroll administration

Manage the full company payroll

Record new starters and leavers

Calculate sick pay, SSP/SMP and overtime

Deduct personal costs, such as personal mileage

Make submissions to HMRC and the pension provider

Calculate the monthly payroll journal

Issue employee payslips

Handle pay-related queries from employees

Accounting duties

Post daily bank and credit card transactions

Approve purchase invoices up to an agreed value

Assist the team with monthly sales invoicing and chasing monies owed

Prepare weekly supplier payment runs

Qualifications:

Essential

Sage 50 Payroll

Intermediate level Excel

Able to work in a confidential capacity

Preferred

Sage 50 Accounts / Xero

Working knowledge of the construction industry

Currently studying towards an accounting qualification
