the posting

Each of us cares about someone who will need medicines. That’s why our vision is to repeatedly beat the odds to deliver breakthrough medicines to patients that need them. We pursue truth and scientific rigour and have the courage to work at the edge of the unknown.

We are looking for an Associate Scientist to join our Formulation and Drug Product Development (FDPD) team within Pharmaceutical Science at AbCellera, to help us shape how our antibody therapies move from the bench toward patients. In this role, you will get hands-on exposure across the full FDPD landscape, from drug substance (DS) and drug product (DP) development to technical transfer support. You’ll play a direct role in building out our internal DP development capabilities for monoclonal antibody formulations, and design the workflows and documentation that make successful fill-finish operations possible.

How you might spend your days:

Supporting pre-formulation and formulation development studies for antibody-based drug products, including buffer preparation, sample handling, and testing

Performing forced degradation, thermal, freeze-thaw, agitation, and photostability studies to assess formulation robustness and identify degradation pathways

Drafting standard operating procedures, work instructions, and preparing study protocols

Designing, executing, and monitoring stability studies, including sample preparation and pulling per protocol, coordinating testing, compiling and trending data, and supporting investigation of atypical or out-of-trend results

Supporting small-scale fill-finish activities, including fill volume and overfill determination, filtration and mixing studies, and in-process sampling

Conducting and interpreting biophysical and analytical characterization studies using a range of analytical methods, including SEC, IEX CE-SDS, DSC, DLS, UV-Vis concentration, sub-visible particles, turbidity and appearance, viscosity, osmolality, pH

Compiling data into reports or presentations and effectively communicating technical results clearly to diverse audiences

Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous records in ELNs in accordance with data integrity expectations and Good Documentation Practices

Performing routine laboratory operations: instrument qualification support, calibration and maintenance, reagent and buffer preparation, inventory management, and lab safety compliance

We’d love to hear from you if:

You have the equivalent of 2+ years of industry experience, in addition to a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

You have experience with protein formulation, stability, and biophysical characterization for liquid or lyophilized drug products

You have a strong understanding of how process parameters, equipment, raw materials, scale, site differences, and process-related stresses can impact product quality

You’re familiar with various analytical techniques for characterizing biopharmaceuticals (e.g., liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and/or spectroscopy-based methods)

You have a working knowledge of electronic lab notebooks (e.g., Benchling), and with 21 CFR Part 11 compliance requirements

You have strong organizational, data management, and time management skills, with excellent attention to detail

What we offer:

AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is CAD $64,000 - $80,000 annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution.

You will have a CAD $1,500 annual Active Lifestyle Allowance, annual vacation, professional development opportunities, and comprehensive health benefits. Scientific and technical mentorship is a priority. And you’ll find we prioritize teams and social groups to build community and connections across AbCellera.

About AbCellera

Creating medicines is the most important work we can do.

We are a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing antibody-based medicines in the areas of endocrinology, women’s health, immunology, and oncology. We have built a platform for advancing antibody drug programs from target to clinic, and we are using it to build our internal pipeline.

Today, our pipeline includes two drug candidates in clinical development, two preclinical development candidates (DCs) in Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling activities, and more than 20 active discovery programs across multiple modalities and indications.

We believe that when tenacious people share a vision and work together, they can truly have a positive impact. That’s why we hire for character and intelligence, not just for CVs or experience.

We look for people with drive and energy. People we trust. People who need to know their days are being well spent. That their work really matters. In the end, our success will be measured by the impact of our medicines.

To apply:

Please submit your application through our website and refer to Job ID 23383 in your cover letter. We apologize in advance, but we receive a large volume of applications and are only able to contact those who are selected for an interview.
