The work

The SOC SME serves as the primary subject matter expert supporting all aspects of the annual System and Organization Controls (SOC 1) audit process. This role provides expert guidance to internal audit teams, program leadership, and external independent public auditors throughout the audit lifecycle—including preparation, evidence collection, documentation review, control evaluation, and reporting.

You will ensure program compliance with federal regulations, DoD policies, and industry standards while acting as the principal point of contact for external auditors. The position requires deep knowledge of internal control frameworks, federal compliance requirements, and hands‑on experience supporting SOC1 or comparable audits such as SOC2, FISCAM, FedRAMP, or FISMA.

Given the program’s history of audit challenges, this role demands exceptional attention to detail, proactive risk identification, strong communication skills, and a proven ability to build effective relationships across government stakeholders and external audit teams.

Key responsibilities:

Serve as the SME for SOC1 audit activities, guiding internal audit teams and coordinating with external independent public auditors

Lead preparation, documentation review, evidence collection, and audit reporting throughout the audit lifecycle

Ensure compliance with federal regulations, DoD policies, and industry audit standards

Identify gaps, weaknesses, and control deficiencies; recommend corrective actions and track remediation

Interpret and apply internal control frameworks such as COSO and COBIT

Provide subject matter expertise on SOC1, SOC2, FISCAM, NIST SP 800‑53, and related audit standards

Build collaborative relationships with government personnel, system owners, and external auditors

Support continuous improvement of audit readiness, compliance posture, and documentation quality

Here’s what you need:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field

Demonstrated experience supporting SOC1 or similar compliance audits (SOC2, FedRAMP, FISMA, FISCAM)

Strong knowledge of federal audit standards, DoD compliance frameworks, COSO, and COBIT

Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify risks proactively

Experience collaborating with external auditors and federal stakeholders

Professional certifications desired: CIA, CISA, CPA

Master‑level proficiency (P2 – Master) in:

– SOC I Knowledge

– SOC II Knowledge

– FISCAM Knowledge

– Information Technology Audits

Working knowledge of NIST SP 800‑53

Eligibility requirements:

U.S. Citizenship required

Eligible to obtain a Secret security clearance

As required by local law, Accenture Federal Services provides reasonable ranges of compensation for hired roles based on labor costs in the states of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia, and the city of Cleveland . The base pay range for this position in these locations is shown below. Compensation for roles at Accenture Federal Services varies depending on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. The pay range for the states of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia, and the city of Cleveland is:

$106,300 — $221,100 USD
