Job Description – Avionics Software Lead Engineer (Safety & Mission-Critical Systems)

Role Overview

The role requires an experienced Avionics Software Engineer with strong technical expertise in Safety-Critical and Mission-Critical Embedded Software Development. The candidate will be responsible for owning software modules or subsystems, leading a small development and verification team, and ensuring compliance to DO-178B/C, DoD-2167A, IEEE-12207, and related aerospace standards. The position demands hands-on development, integration, and testing within real-time embedded environments with exposure to Embedded GUI frameworks.

Key Responsibilities 1. Software Module Ownership & Development

- Design, implement, and maintain avionics software modules aligned to system and software requirements.

- Develop real-time applications under RTOS environments (VxWorks, QNX, Integrity, RTLinux, PikeOS).

- Implement software in C/C++ or ADA ensuring adherence to DO-178C Level B/C guidelines.

- Prepare and maintain software design descriptions (SDD), low-level requirements (LLR), and code traceability.

- Participate in peer code reviews, static analysis, and software build verification.

- Support integration of GUI frameworks (SCADE) for cockpit and operator displays.

2. Verification & Validation

- Develop and execute unit, integration, and module-level tests per DO-178B/C, IEEE 12207 , DoD-2167 objectives.

- Ensure requirement-based testing, robustness, and code coverage analysis using LDRA / VectorCAST / RTRT / Cantata.

- Support preparation of verification plans (SVP) and test reports (STR, SVR).

- Contribute to certification documentation and ensure audit readiness.

3. Real-Time System Integration

- Integrate developed modules with hardware, FPGA, and system interfaces.

- Troubleshoot and resolve integration-level issues with real-time determinism and synchronization considerations.

- Support HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) and SIL (Software-in-the-Loop) test setups.

4. Team Leadership & Coordination

- Lead a small team (5-10 engineers) working on assigned software modules or subsystems.

- Allocate tasks, review deliverables, and ensure quality and schedule adherence.

- Mentor junior engineers in design practices, coding standards, and test methodologies.

- Collaborate with System, Hardware, QA, and Configuration teams for aligned delivery.

5. Process Compliance & Documentation

- Follow structured development and verification life cycle as per DO-178C, AS9100, and CMMI Level-3/5 processes.

- Ensure complete traceability from system requirements → software design → verification artifacts.

- Participate in internal and external reviews (SRR, SDR, CDR, TRR).

• - Familiarity with safety-critical systems, code verification tools, and configuration management.
