About the team:

Location services are at the heart of any delivery experience, and the Features team of Better Places tribe is building a world-class solution that integrates multiple providers to get accurate geocoding, enables geocode corrections, and serves relevant information about addresses worldwide. We use open-source and proprietary data and algorithms to build a highly scalable system that serves billions of requests yearly.

You will be taking care of

Building and taking end-to-end ownership of new features across our Kotlin-based backend microservices

Deploying features and scaling systems via Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

Partnering with product owners, fellow engineers, and cross-functional teams to clarify requirements, clear blockers, and drive initiatives forward

Jumping into a dynamic team environment to refine our engineering practices and actively shape a tribe and product transformation as we evolve our backend architecture for the future

Looking beyond existing solutions to actively identify architectural bottlenecks and drive meaningful improvements

Our Tech Stack:

Backend Services: Kotlin, Spring Boot, Relational Databases (PostgreSQL), AWS (ECS, SQS, Eventbridge, EC2), Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi)

You check these boxes

A background in computer science and software engineering, including a minimum of 3 years of backend experience

Proficiency in Kotlin or deep production experience in Java with a strong affinity for Kotlin, along with frameworks like Spring Boot and build tools like Gradle

Skilled in architectural design, specifically building fault-tolerant, high-throughput distributed systems

Hands-on cloud experience with AWS and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Pulumi

A commitment to clean code and engineering best practices, including RESTful/API design, Git, and maintainable technical documentation

A hands-on, data-driven mindset that actively builds new capabilities, challenges the status quo with clear evidence, and adds distinct, complementary perspectives to the team

Proficiency in Business English

Please Note:

Reactive programming is an important part of the day-to-day work in this role. Professional experience is not required , but we expect some familiarity, curiosity, and willingness to learn and work with it. It will also be part of the technical interview process , so we recommend getting familiar with the basics beforehand. Our stack includes Spring WebFlux, Kotlin Coroutines, and Flow .

It is awesome if you also have

Hands-on experience with asynchronous programming using Kotlin Coroutines and reactive data streams (e.g., Flow, RxJava, Project Reactor)

Practical know-how in taking ML models and productionizing them within backend services

Knowledge or practical experience with geospatial data processing
