This position participates in the custodial maintenance of Town buildings. Successful performance contributes to clean, attractive, and welcoming facilities for Town employees, citizens, and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clean and sanitize restrooms, including fixtures and mirrors, and replenish soap and paper products

Sweep and mop floors and help maintain clean, well-kept flooring throughout Town facilities

Dust mop, vacuum, and mop tile floors and sweep carpeted areas using a push sweeper

Wax floors annually as part of ongoing facility maintenance

Clean kitchen tables and countertops

Dust furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces

Clean glass windows and doors

Clean frequently touched areas such as door handles and hand railings

Spot-clean walls to help maintain attractive facilities

Empty and clean trash cans

Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners and buffers

Safely use a variety of hand tools and cleaning chemicals

Follow Town safety policies, procedures, and applicable material safety information

Prioritize assigned work and follow instructions

Work respectfully around coworkers, other Town employees, and members of the public

Perform related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Town safety policies and procedures

Knowledge of the proper use of various cleaning chemicals

Skill in operating cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners and buffers

Skill in using various hand tools

Ability to follow instructions and established procedures

Ability to prioritize work

Ability to work effectively around the public

Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and other Town employees

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Intermittent sitting, standing, bending, crouching, and stooping

Frequent lifting of light or heavy objects

Climbing ladders as needed to perform assigned duties

Use of tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity

Ability to distinguish between shades of color and utilize the sense of smell

Work performed in offices, libraries, stockrooms, warehouses, and outdoors

Occasional work in cold or inclement weather

Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts

Use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves required

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to read and write

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations

No prior experience required

Valid New Hampshire driver’s license

Hours of Work:

40 hours a week: 6:00pm- 2:30am Mon-Fri; this position qualifies for a shift differential.
