Summary

Responsible for designing, evaluating and supervising exercise programs for Cardiac Rehab patients in accordance with evidence-based training principles and within the limits of the patient's medical diagnosis.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of the job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

Updates exercise prescription on a weekly basis based on clinical status and responses to exercise

Assist in monitoring the cardiac rehab sessions and maintain records of pertinent information obtained during the session on each patient

Assist in monitoring EKG and blood pressure responses in patients during the exercise therapy program

Maintains a team approach in working with the Medical Director, the referring physician, Dietitians, Exercise Psychologists Nurses and Respiratory Therapist to deliver a safe and effective plan of care

Assist in the maintenance of the Cardiac Rehab department equipment and exercises proper use of the equipment

Provide group educational lectures and in-services to staff, members and patients

Develop a discharge plan as it relates to progression, intensity, duration and frequency of home exercise program

Instructs new patients in the safe use of exercise and resistance equipment

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:

Bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology or equivalent in related health field required

Obtain ACSM certification within 1 year of hire required

Certified in BCLS required, ACLS within 90 days of hire required

WORK EXPERIENCE:

1 year of experience in the field of cardiac rehab preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language

Strong communication skills

Strong exercise science knowledge base for primary and secondary disease prevention, with the ability to compute MET level and exercise prescriptions in accordance with ACSM standards

Manual dexterity in use of equipment and supplies

Ability to understand stress test results

Knowledgeable of the psychosocial, physiological, developmental, and spiritual needs of the young adult, middle adult, and older adult to provide appropriate care and intervention either personally or through staff

Ability to utilize a computer and hospital applications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Hearing ability

Ability to speak clearly

Visual acuity

Motor coordination and manual dexterity

Good physical and mental stamina to perform duties and responsibilities

• •Some physical exertion involved when participating in exercise sessions and in any situation requiring emergency treatment of a patient
• •Work may include light cleaning and preparing facility.
