EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time, Non-Exempt Employee

Career Team is looking to hire a Career and Education Outreach Specialist to provide career guidance, career preparation, and workforce information to students in grades 5–12, their parents and guardians, and district staff across the Deep East Texas Workforce Development Area. Working in partnership with local school districts, the Specialist exposes, educates, and engages students in career development and decision-making, connecting them to in-demand industry sectors, middle-skill jobs, pre-apprenticeship and Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs), internships, and technical and community college pathways. This position carries independent decision-making authority and is performed with minimal supervision under the direction of the Deputy Director.

Your Impact on Career Team's Success

Work in assigned school districts and other locations to provide career information, awareness, and resources for students in grades 5–12, their parents and guardians, and district staff

Conduct initial orientations and ongoing refreshers for school staff to explain the Specialist's role and the resources provided

Provide information on in-demand industry sectors, occupations, and postsecondary options using Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) resources and tools, including Texas Reality Check, Texas Career Check, Texas CREWS, Texas OnCourse, Texas Internship Challenge, Auto Coder, Texas Skills to Work, and Job's Y'all

Engage and train district staff on using career tools and resources, including the LMCI website

Expose students to career pathways, including pre-apprenticeship and Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs), technical and community colleges, and employment, through presentations, TWC tools, job fairs, and site visits

Organize job exploration events, career fairs, and career support workshops for students, parents, and guardians

Provide classroom presentations, virtually or on-site, in partnering school districts

Serve as a primary resource to assigned districts for labor market information, including growth and high-demand occupations at the county, regional, and state levels

Work in coordination with school counselors and administrators

Coordinate with local and state workforce services, employers, and educational institutions to build pathways into pre-apprenticeship and RAPs, and encourage employers to offer them

Maintain a published schedule of virtual and on-site office hours and structured meeting times for students at each location

Develop a communication and support model connecting services with students, including on-site and virtual visits, planning meetings, mentoring, and phone and text communication where permitted by the district

Organize annual workshops with TWC subject matter experts, local business and industry leaders, chambers of commerce, and technical and community colleges to build partnerships and support integrated career and education services

Develop and maintain community partnerships with businesses, educational organizations, and community stakeholders aligned with Workforce Solutions projects and initiatives

Foster employer and district collaboration, encouraging employers to provide internships, mentoring, industry tours, and job-shadowing opportunities

Coordinate with TWC program personnel, including the regional Student HireAbility Navigators supporting Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) for students with disabilities ages 14–22

Become familiar with TWC programs such as Adult Education and Literacy, Vocational Rehabilitation, Foster Youth, Career Signing Day, and Apprenticeship

Support statewide initiatives, local job fairs, and special events, and serve on planning committees for regional youth career events

Attend monthly and annual trainings provided by TWC staff

Maintain confidentiality of students and customers

Approach each day and task with a “ZAG” mindset

Other duties and projects as needed

This position requires regular travel within the Deep East Texas Workforce Development Area to work on-site in partnering school districts, with some services delivered virtually. Limited overnight travel may be required to attend regional, state, or national conferences, workshops, meetings, or trainings.

To Qualify for This Role, You Must Have

A bachelor's degree in human services, business, education, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university (one year of qualifying experience may be substituted for each year, or 30 semester hours, of college, up to a maximum of two years)

At least two years of experience in education, youth training, or workforce development programs

Knowledge of classroom management strategies and demonstrated ability to develop interactive classroom presentations

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with secondary and postsecondary education and training providers, local employers, and youth

Skilled and effective oral and written communication, with demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations, especially youth

Ability to work independently and cooperatively

A commitment to customer satisfaction as an organizational goal

Ability to travel frequently within the 12-county area

A Valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation (local, in-state, and out-of-state travel is required); use of a personal automobile for agency business requires a current valid driver's license and current automobile liability insurance

Additional Skills/Knowledge Career Team Would Love for This Role

Experience in workforce development or Career and Technical Education (CTE), preferably in gathering and reporting outcomes

ISD experience as a teacher or counselor working with at-risk middle or high school populations

Knowledge of the Deep East Texas region and its employers, community organizations, and workforce partners

Bilingual or multilingual

Training in Trauma Informed Care, evidence-based practice, and/or empathy-driven service delivery

Salary: $37,000 - $41,000/yr

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Career Team offers a competitive benefits package including healthcare, dental, and personal/vacation time.

Travel: Frequent travel within the 12-county Deep East Texas region; limited overnight travel may be required
