The Career Specialist is an entry level position that guides students through career exploration, helps prepare students for work-based learning and internship opportunities, and assists with job searches and graduate school processes.
Job Duties:
Career Advising
Facilitate individual and group career exploration to students, including assessment of interests, values, skills, and career pathways.
Facilitate opportunities for students to explore strengths, interests, and potential career directions through structured experiences and activities.
Assist students in preparing for work-based learning experiences, internships, employment, and graduate or professional programs.
Assist students in preparing their personal documents for job searches or graduate applications.
Support development of career readiness skills, including communication, professionalism, and job search strategies.
Career Services Program Development
Assist in the development and implementation of EDGE programming.
Assist in the development of partnerships with university and community stakeholders.
Assist the Director of the Center with long-range goals in the program area.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, student services administration, higher education, human resources or related field from an accredited institution (experience in higher education and/or Master’s degree preferred);
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent communication, organizational and time management, problem solving and decision making, and customer service skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other office and record-keeping systems.
Experience : Previous experience in college career services or similar experience in career development in a business environment (preferred).
License/Certification: Professional certification in career development (e.g., NCDA, GCDF) or related area preferred.
