Position Highlights

The Brookings Health System Clinical Enrichment Program (CEP) is a South Dakota Board of Nursing approved program to allow nursing students the opportunity to continue learning the practice of nursing outside of their formal nursing education program.

The Brookings Health System CEP is a 10 week paid clinical program that will take place annually in the summer from the months of May to August. The Program offers $20.00 per hour and the students will be assigned to work the schedule of their preceptor.

During the 10 week internship the students will have the opportunity to experience all 4 nursing departments at Brookings Health, Inpatient Care, Obstetrics, Emergency, and Operating Room. The students can customize the time spent in each department based on their experience needs or preferences.

Nurse graduates today must be prepared to work in an environment that encompasses increased acuity levels and advancing technology while embracing diversity and a patient centered care framework. Because of this, graduates must be prepared with the necessary skills and competencies that will enable them to be successful in functioning as a member of the nursing profession. Brookings Health System believes that learning is a dynamic process requiring a shared commitment by the school and healthcare facility. Learning is stimulated when student involvement is increased.

The clinical enrichment program allows Brookings Health System to build on student's previous knowledge and allows experiences that will strengthen the overall performance and abilities of the student nurse. Through the clinical enrichment program, Brookings Health System is investing in tomorrow's nursing profession by assisting in the development of a student nurses' cognitive, technical and communication skills.

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in and have completed the third year of an accredited four-year baccalaureate nursing program by the start of the internship. Anticipated graduation date must be noted on application.
  • Complete the Brookings Health System application process and meet all pre-employment requirements. Must attach a cover letter, copy of resume and transcripts.
  • Possess current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for healthcare provider.
