L1 DevOps / Cloud Operations Engineer

Role Overview

The L1 DevOps / Cloud Operations Engineer will be responsible for handling day-to-day BAU operational activities across AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, infrastructure, and operating systems.

The role requires good foundational knowledge of cloud infrastructure, DevOps tools, Linux/Windows administration, troubleshooting, and production support. The engineer will work primarily on operational tickets, standard changes, incidents, patching activities, deployment support, and initial-level troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

• •Handle BAU tickets, service requests, incidents, and operational tasks .
• •Perform basic administration and troubleshooting of AWS services .
• •Support and troubleshoot Amazon EC2 instances.
• •Support applications and workloads running on Amazon EKS .
• •Perform basic Kubernetes troubleshooting , including:
• •Pods
• •Deployments
• •Services
• •ConfigMaps
• •Secrets
• •Logs
• •Basic networking issues

• •Support application deployments using Helm Charts .
• •Assist with SSL/TLS certificate-related activities , including certificate installation, renewal, and basic troubleshooting.
• •Support and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines .
• •Work with Jenkins for application build and deployment activities.
• •Use Ansible for standard configuration management and automation activities.
• •Understand and support AWS Security Groups , including basic inbound and outbound rule troubleshooting.
• •Perform and support Linux patching activities.
• •Perform and support Windows Server patching activities.
• •Perform initial troubleshooting for Linux and Windows operating system issues .
• •Have a good understanding of Terraform and support standard infrastructure changes through existing Terraform code.
• •Review Terraform plans and assist with troubleshooting common Terraform deployment issues.
• •Perform basic troubleshooting across:
• •Cloud infrastructure
• •Servers
• •Kubernetes
• •Application deployments
• •CI/CD pipelines
• •Network connectivity
• •SSL certificates

• •Follow established SOPs, runbooks, change procedures, and operational processes .
• •Participate in on-call support and respond to production alerts/incidents.
• •Perform initial incident analysis and escalate complex issues to L2/L3 teams when required.
• •Document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and operational changes in tickets.

Expected L1 Capability

An L1 engineer should be capable of independently handling routine operational activities and standard BAU tickets using existing documentation, SOPs, Terraform modules, pipelines, Helm charts, and automation.

For issues requiring architecture changes, complex troubleshooting, new infrastructure design, major Terraform development, Kubernetes platform changes, or advanced production incident analysis, the engineer should collect the required information and escalate to the appropriate L2/L3 engineer .
