About the Role

The Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Programmer I supports the development, validation, and execution of CMM and VCMM inspection programs under the guidance of senior metrology personnel in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and ISO 1101. This role assists with automated inspection programming, program prove-out, and documentation while developing proficiency in CMM programming techniques and metrology best practices. The position supports daily automated inspection operations and helps maintain the availability and accuracy of inspection programs.

What You'll Do

The primary duties and responsibilities of the CMM Programmer I consist of but are not limited to:

Programming and Technical Support

• •Assist in the development of CMM and VCMM inspection programs under the guidance of senior programmers or metrology leadership. Support implementation of program updates and improvements
• •Review CMM/VCMM outputs to verify compliance with quality inspection requirements
• •Support first-time prove-out activities for CMM and VCMM programs including setup verification, measurement validation, and documentation
• •Assist in troubleshooting automated inspection equipment, software, hardware, and fixturing
• •Perform automated inspection equipment tasks in accordance with established schedules
• •Ensure inspection programs are generated in accordance with Customer Standards, Industry Standards, and UMC Best Practices

Collaboration & Communication

• •Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production staff
• •Communicate inspection program issues or concerns to appropriate personnel
• •Support training and development activities within the metrology group

Process Improvement & Compliance

• •Participate in the development and implementation of Best Practice Metrology Standards
• •Support 5S and continuous improvement initiatives
• •Support and comply with UMC’s Quality System and Aerospace & Medical Industry Standards
• •Ensure program revisions follow UMC change control practices and requirements

Documentation & Instructions

Assist with creation and maintenance of written setup instructions for automated inspection programs and processes

General

• •Exhibits a working knowledge of health and safety and promotes a culture of safety awareness
• •Identify opportunities for improvement and report potential hazards, unsafe working conditions, unsafe equipment, unsafe acts, near misses and injuries immediately
• •Develop proficiency in CMM programming software, measurement strategies, and automated inspection processes.
• •Other tasks as assigned

Requirements

Education and Experience

• •High school diploma or equivalent
• •Technical degree in metrology, manufacturing, or related field preferred; equivalent advanced industry experience may be considered.
• •Demonstrated knowledge of CMM or automated inspection systems
• •Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and apply GD&T requirements
• •Experience with CMM software platforms such as Calypso or PC-Dmis preferred
• •CNC machining experience preferred

Physical Requirements

• •Frequent use of hands and upper extremities in fine and gross manipulation with parts
• •Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer throughout the entirety of the shift
• •Must be able to make coordinated motions with hands/fingers to operate office equipment Including, but not limited to computer, copy machines, and scanners
• •Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
