Compounding Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary

Essential Functions

• Assist pharmacists in filling inpatient orders, documenting activities, monitoring stock for outdated medications, and disposing of medications.
• Compound medications according to USP regulations.
• Perform sterile compounding in compliance with USP regulations.
• Perform sterile compounding of hazardous medications according to USP regulations.
• Assist with sterile compounding competencies.
• Complete all Simplifi activities and inspections.
• Prepare, deliver, and collect all pharmacy items throughout the facility.
• Restock IV room supplies.
• Restock automated dispensing cabinets.
• Perform floor checks, stock checks, and assigned unit reviews.
• Prepackage medications.
• Answer the telephone and assist callers with inquiries that do not require the professional judgment of a Pharmacist.
• Assist customers at the service window.
• Complete mandatory education and training to maintain competencies, requirements, certification, and/or licensure.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or completion of college coursework.
• Compound Sterile Preparation (CPhT-CSP) certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
• Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Experience in a hospital inpatient pharmacy.
• Experience in a USP -compliant sterile products compounding room.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record or similar programs.
• Understanding of medical terminology and calculations.

• Previous hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician training program desired 1-2 years

• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• - Perform intermediate mathematical calculations associated with preparing non-sterile, extemporaneously manufactured pharmaceutical products and other medication doses.
• - Follow all applicable state and federal controlled substance regulations.
• - Continuously improve skills necessary of area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information system.
• - Read, interpret, and follow complex verbal and written instructions to prepare medications in a sterile environment in an accurate manner.
