ISLA 221 D2 (001) - Introductory Arabi c

Course Description:

This course is an introduction to Modern Standard Arabic, including pronunciation, reading and writing of the Arabic script; and speaking and comprehension of basic sentences, commands, statements in the present tense.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education

M.A. or PhD degree in Arabic linguistics, literature, or a related field.

Experience

Relevant teaching experience at a university or college level. Fluency in Arabic is required.

Course Description:

This course will focus on Persian culture and the history, geography, politics, arts, and other topics relevant to Iran. In addition, students will read about different modern and classical poets.

Education

Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics or Persian Literature.

Experience

At least two years of teaching experience with Persian language at the university level.

Other

Must possess native or native-like command of Persian language.

ISLA 360 - Islam and Politics in Africa

Course Description:

Islam and Politics in Africa is a course that offers an interdisciplinary overview of a wide range of themes pertaining to the assessment of the relationship between Islam and politics in contemporary Africa through various analytic themes, including an historical, political economy, social movement, and gendered analysis. The selected candidate will prepare formal lessons and instructions for a 3 hours per week course. They will also administer examinations and assignments in conformity with regulations and are required to mark tests and assignments and submit the final grades online using McGill systems.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education

Ph.D. in politics, sociology, education, gender and women’s studies or a related discipline.

Experience

Relevant teaching experience at the University Level. Experience in teaching socio-economic, political, and women’s issues as these pertain to Africa.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education

Minimum of a Ph.D. in a related field or PhD advanced candidacy.

Experience

An interdisciplinary research seminar on topics of interest related to African Studies. Teaching experience at a graduate level in African Studies preferred, undergraduate level teaching experience in African studies at a minimum.

Previous teaching experience essential.
