Duties

As a Data Scientist, at the full performance level, you will perform the following duties: Analyze a variety of data sources to provide data-driven insights that support organizational efficiency, operational planning, investigations, deployment coordination, resource management, and mission execution. Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to evaluate program operations, identify patterns and trends, and develop recommendations based on analytical findings. Independently develops, tests, validates, and refines analytic models of program or administrative reporting systems, including systems specifications, data gathering methods, analytical techniques, and evaluation approaches. Apply computational, statistical, and machine learning methods to new, large, or complex datasets to identify insights using advanced analytical tools. Basic Qualifications: In order to meet basic qualifications for GS-1560 positions, individuals must have a degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE BASIC REQUIREMENT, YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICAITONS: Minimum Qualifications: You qualify at the GS-12 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level performing duties such as: Implementing interactive data-driven reports and dashboards that support complex budgetary projections using intelligence tools and a wide variety of transactional and reporting-focused data systems; Ensuring the statistical validity and accuracy of all reports as well as gathering feedback to ensure that data products are useful to budgetary projection and are providing relevant observations leading to the identification of patterns and trends; Utilizing continuous improvement, educational research, and data science disciplines to construct analytical output by evaluating large financial data sets, and Supporting the development of guidelines and operational procedures that result in accurate and efficient collection, validation, display, and reporting of data for the purpose of informing financial and budgetary needs.
