Job Description:

The State of Nebraska, Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Grants Accounting Analyst. This position oversees, monitors, reports, and reconciles, roughly 200 million in federal funds annually.

Examples of Work

This position works in DHHS Financial Services and completes the financial reporting for federal grants. This includes:

  • Expenditure monitoring, financial reporting, and monthly meetings with programs to discuss financial aspects of the grant program;
  • Setting up federal grants, business units, authorizations, redistribution of authorization as needed for reconciliation of grants;
  • Reconciliation of administrative costs and indirect costs, journal entries, and closing business units;
  • Monitoring for federal regulation compliance and DHHS policy/procedure compliance;
  • Updating policies and procedures as grant terms and regulations change;
  • Ensuring compliance with match requirements;
  • Ensuring internal controls of obligations of federal funds;
  • Maintaining good working relationships with federal partners, Auditor of Public Accounts, providing documentation and/or answering questions related to grants, and SEFA/ACFR reporting for federal grant;
  • Addressing programmatic questions and working with all internal and external stakeholders in the performance of these duties.

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Post high school education in any of the following areas: accounting, finance, public or business administration, economics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related areas. AND/OR Experience in any of the areas above including responsibility for any of the following functions: fiscal or accounting systems analysis; budget analysis or preparation; cost/benefit accounting and/or analysis; design and/or development of accounting control and reporting systems; financial auditing; fiscal records, management; or related areas.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Experience with financial reporting of federal grants. Microsoft Excel skills.

Other: Position is located on-site at the Nebraska State Office Building in Lincoln.
