Director of Environmental Compliance

Summary

This position is part of the EDF Office of Energy Dominance Financing, Department of Energy. As a Director of Environmental Compliance, you will serve as the senior technical and regulatory authority responsible for leading environmental reviews, policy development, and statutory compliance across the Department of Energy's loan and financing portfolio, while exercising full supervisory oversight over multi-disciplinary scientific project and monitoring managers.

Veterans shape the future of energy As a Director of Environmental Compliance, you will: Provide expert guidance to executive leadership on complex environmental issues, regulations, and Tribal consultations. Direct the technical review of environmental documents, impact studies, and required cleanup or protection plans. Lead and support a team of environmental project managers by setting priorities, assigning projects, hiring staff, and evaluating performance. Create clear internal guidelines and public procedures to ensure all loan programs follow environmental standards. Negotiate and resolve sensitive environmental issues with other federal agencies, state and local governments. Tribes, and private companies. Review proposed energy and loan projects for federal environmental law and regulation complaince.

Qualifications

You must meet both the Basic Requirement and the Specialized Experience to qualify for this series as described below. See the Education section for the Basic Requirement. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of the 3 of the following: Conducting environmental reviews for large-scale energy, industrial or infrastructure projects to ensure they follow major environmental laws (such as the National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, or National Historic Preservation Act). Providing expert advice to senior leadership on environmental compliance strategies while leading discussions with government agencies, Tribal nations, or private industry to resolve complex environmental issues. Supervising or leading a team of scientists, engineers, or technical contractors by setting priorities, assigning projects, and reviewing final technical reports. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
