Director, PGS and Enterprise Solutions Data Contextualization & Semantic Engineering Lead

The Director, PGS and Enterprise Solutions Data Integration & Semantic Engineering Lead makes data mean something – end to end. This leader ensures data carries context from its source to make it portable across a heterogeneous global network, and the enterprise semantic layer – ontologies, business glossary, knowledge graph and semantic views – through which people and AI interpret it. This role demands a passion for ensuring data carries the meaning that makes it machine-interpretable, both operational technology credibility at the plant floor and knowledge-graph depth at the enterprise.

What You Will Achieve

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Build and lead a multidisciplinary team spanning OT data engineering, industrial connectivity and semantic/knowledge-graph engineering.

Own edge contextualisation patterns (e.g. HighByte), ensuring context is applied once, at source, to open standards.

Partnering with Data Strategy and Architecture teams, lead the design and operation of the enterprise semantic-layer capability. Partner closely with business data owners to define domain ontologies and business glossary, the knowledge graph, and semantic views enabling in-platform intelligence.

Own the deployment and operation of Unified Namespace (UNS) architecture and associated messaging standards (MQTT – Message Queuing Telemetry Transport; OPC-UA – Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture) from shop floor to enterprise.

Define and execute one global + site strategy for the plant historian (PI) estate, including streamlining and consolidation of installed footprint.

Set the standards to which solution-embedded edge and integration work is executed across Creation Centers and sites.

Partner with the site network through Site Data & Integration Leads (via the Network & Automation interface) to keep central patterns grounded in plant reality.

Lead the MDE program: multi-site enablement, foundational data product delivery, and the maturity-model roadmap, on time and to standard.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field and 8+ years across manufacturing/operational technology and data engineering, including 3+ years leading technical teams or major programs.

Broad understanding of Digital Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and SAP ERP concepts and data models.

Deep, applied understanding of AI models, and what it takes to make data machine-understandable.

Hands-on depth with plant data systems – historians (PI/AVEVA), MES context, industrial connectivity and modern industrial data engineering.

Practical experience of semantic concepts and modelling: ontologies, taxonomies, knowledge graphs or graph query technologies.

Experience delivering in a GxP manufacturing environment.

Proven ability to influence and align senior stakeholders across business and technology organizations.

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with industrial DataOps tooling (e.g. HighByte), UNS architectures, MQTT brokers and edge deployment patterns.

Understanding of graph platforms (e.g. Neo4j) and semantic layer technologies.

Deep working knowledge of ISA-95/ISA-88 and their application to contextualisation at scale.

Program leadership of multi-site technology deployments in pharmaceutical or comparable regulated manufacturing.

Advanced degree in a relevant field.

Occasional travel ( Occasional after hours or weekend work may be required to participate in global meetings or in support of strategic programs and/or issue resolution.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $176,600.00 to $294,300.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
