About the Position: Works under the supervision of a Supervisory Civil Engineering Technician who issues instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines and relies upon the incumbent to assure that work assignments are carried out by other members of the group.

Duties

• •Serves as working leader of employees in accomplishing core drilling work.
• •Assists supervisor in planning the use of workers, equipment, and facilities, materials and tools on a day-to-day, project-by-project and on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.
• •Determines training needs and makes recommendations to supervisor.
• •Helps supervisor in his investigations of grievances and complaints and helps supervisor in his efforts to resolve them informally.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Drill Rig Operator Leader without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common use of mechanical and/or hydraulic rotary drill rigs and high-pressure compressors. I can load supplies and equipment prior to commencing a drilling project assignment, making certain that all necessary items are loaded and are in proper working order before traveling to the job site, and assure that loads are secured safely. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Related to Mobile Equipment Operation) Ability to Lead or Supervise Ability to Operate Safely (Non-motor Vehicles) Reliability and Dependability as a Drill Rig Operator Physical Effort: Requires standing for prolonged periods, walking, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting. Handles large diameter bits 6 to 12 inches core barrels up to 7 5/8 inches in diameter, and uses 20-footlengths of drill rods. Uses heavy chain tongs to make up tool strings, add and remove drive barrels,lift and screw and unscrew 5-foot lengths of drive pipe weighing 40 to 100 pounds. Working Conditions: Works outside in all kinds of weather, frequently in wet, icy, muddy and dirty conditions. Is exposed to poison growth, reptiles and constant noisy conditions. Is also exposed to cuts and bruises in using tools and working near moving machinery, strains while using heavy tools and equipment,slips and falls in wet or icy weather and from hoisting equipment, and the possibility of electric shock and burns. Danger of drowning exists when working over water. Is subject to considerable discomfort due to mud, water and grease and while wearing HTRW protective gear such as Tyveksuit and respirator subjecting the employee to less mobility and greater heat stress conditions.
