Duties

Duties include but not limited too: The electrician is responsible for a diverse range of journeyman electrician duties, including the installation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and testing of complex electrical systems, circuits, equipment, appliances, controls, components, lighting fixtures, and fire alarm systems. Installs, modifies, repairs, and troubleshoots electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls distribution lines and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase, and frequency requirements, distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits, electrical warning, intrusion, detection, burglar alarm, fire alarm system, high intensity lighting system, high voltage system (15 KV), which includes splicing, terminating, and cable integrity, street lighting, motor generator sets, air conditioning induction motors, elevators, capacitors, DC motors, cable television, and air circuit breakers involving all the fundamental operations relevant to such work. Works from building plans, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings; and is responsible for planning and laying out the routing, placement, and arrangement of industrial or similarly complex systems, circuits, controls, and equipment. Responsible for safe and proper operation of systems and equipment, and for compliance with the National Electrical Code. Completes installations, modifications and repairs; and loads and tests systems, circuits, equipment, and controls with little or no check during the progress or upon completion of work. When new parts are required and unavailable, the electrician uses ingenuity and resourcefulness in an attempt to keep the equipment or appliance into temporary operation. Work Schedule: 7:30am-4:00pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD06479A Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be able to lift heavy equipment such as large spools of wire, bundles of conduit, etc. Must be able to work for prolonged periods while 'kneeling, crouching, stooping and/or standing in awkward positions and must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, various hydraulic lifts and roofs.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
