Embedded Software Engineer, Amazon Leo Satellite Broadband Terminals

Amazon Leo is closing the digital divide with a constellation of 3,236 low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellites bringing fast, affordable broadband to communities the internet has never reliably reached. The customer terminal is the phased-array antenna at the customer's premises that turns that constellation into a working internet link — and our team writes the embedded software that makes it work: acquiring a LEO satellite on a fast overhead pass, electronically steering the beam to track it, closing and holding the link, and handing over to the next satellite within seconds. This is a broad role — you can work across the full signal chain and go deep wherever interests you most.

• What you'll work on:
• •Electronic beam steering & tracking — real-time control that keeps a phased-array beam pointed at a fast-moving satellite across the pass and through every handover.
• •Phased-array calibration — per-element amplitude/phase calibration that holds beam and sidelobe performance across unit-to-unit variation, temperature, and frequency, on real hardware in the field, with the automated test coverage to keep it reliable.
• •Link acquisition, tracking & management — satellite acquisition, closed-loop tracking, and the control that brings the link up, keeps it healthy, and reacquires cleanly through handovers.
• •RF power & thermal management — managing transmit power and duty cycle against PA and platform thermal limits so the terminal runs at full performance without exceeding its envelope.
• •System integration & field telemetry — integrate the RF front-end, controls, and signal path, then use device telemetry to debug and improve terminals operating on orbit.

• Key job responsibilities
• What we look for:
• •Embedded C/C++ or Rust on Linux/RTOS, close to the hardware.
• •Wireless / RF / DSP exposure — phased arrays, beamforming, SatCom, 5G/LTE, radar, or similar — or strong drive to grow into it.
• •Hands-on hardware debugging — comfortable with lab instruments, RF test setups, and reading telemetry to reason about a live system.

• Our stack:
• Rust, C/C++, and Python on embedded Linux / RTOS, working directly with the RF front-end and real hardware — lab terminals, RF test benches, and satellites on orbit. Automated hardware-in-the-loop testing and rich fleet telemetry let you see the impact of your code in the real world. New development is increasingly in Rust.

• A day in the life
• As part of our Amazon Leo CT SW Team, you will design and implement embedded software used in the Project Kuiper products. You will work in a collaborative environment with teams inside and outside of Amazon. You will craft your software from requirements, designs, code, test, to product deployment. You need to be flexible and responsive to changing priority issues.

• About the team
• The Amazon Leo CT SW Team supports the devices that connect our customers to the Kuiper network. We provide software for both applications and the underlying Linux system. We work hand in hand with hardware, product and operations teams to deliver a great experience for our customers.

Basic qualifications

• - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• - 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• - 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
• - 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
• - 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• - Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• - Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred qualifications

• - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
