Engineering Technician III – Research & Development

Ultradent is seeking a hands-on, curious, and highly collaborative Engineering Technician III to join our Research & Development team. In this role, you will work closely with engineers and other technical team members to support the development, testing, and evaluation of new products, technologies, and manufacturing processes.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a laboratory and prototype environment where no two days are exactly alike. Depending on the project, you may work with CAD, manual machining, electronics, 3D printing, mechanical assemblies, test equipment, and experimental hardware.

R&D work often involves new problems, changing priorities, incomplete information, and unexpected results. The successful candidate will be comfortable asking questions, learning new skills, communicating observations, and partnering with engineers to turn ideas into working hardware.

What You’ll Do

• •Build, modify, troubleshoot, and evaluate prototypes, test fixtures, equipment, and mechanical assemblies
• •Support product and process development through laboratory testing and experimentation
• •Perform tests according to established procedures and accurately collect, record, and communicate results
• •Operate manual machining equipment, including lathes and mills
• •Use hand tools, power tools, measurement instruments, and laboratory equipment safely and effectively
• •Create or modify basic CAD models and drawings
• •Document project progress, technical observations, problems, and outcomes
• •Take ownership of assigned projects and complete work accurately and on schedule
• •Work independently and collaboratively with engineers, technicians, and other cross-functional partners
• •Follow approved project plans, testing methods, and safety procedures while constructively sharing ideas and potential improvements
• •Help maintain an organized, safe, and effective laboratory and prototype environment

What You’ll Need to Succeed

• •Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated hands-on technical ability
• •Experience with machine building, mechanical assembly, prototyping, or related technical work
• •Experience with manual machining, including lathes and mills
• •Familiarity with testing methods and accurate data collection
• •Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
• •Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accurate, high-quality work
• •Ability to manage assignments and solve problems with limited supervision
• •Willingness to ask questions, seek information, and learn new tools and technologies
• •Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
• •Proficiency with standard computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel
• •Willingness to follow established processes while offering thoughtful ideas and alternative approaches

Preferred Qualifications

• •Experience working in an engineering, R&D, laboratory, manufacturing, or prototype environment
• •Experience with CAD; basic SolidWorks experience is preferred, but training can be provided
• •Experience with 3D printing, electronics, test equipment, or experimental hardware
• •Technical degree, certification, apprenticeship, or equivalent combination of education and practical experience
