Enterprise Architecture Senior Architect
Career Architecture Title: IT Principal Architect, Enterprise Architecture
Role Title: Senior Architect, US Employer Enterprise Architecture
POSITION SUMMARY
As a Senior Architect supporting US Employer Enterprise Architecture , you will help shape architecture across a portfolio of business and technology domains. You will connect business strategy, capabilities, information, applications, platforms, and operating models into a coherent enterprise direction; align domain initiatives to target states; and develop value-based roadmaps that balance near-term delivery with long-term simplification, resilience, and growth.
In this role, you will partner broadly across Enterprise Architecture, Technology, Product, Operations, Data, and US Employer business teams to influence decisions, align stakeholders, and bring clarity in ambiguous and fast-changing environments. You will work with domain leaders to shape capability roadmaps, identify cross-domain dependencies, and sequence investments that improve business outcomes, technology agility, and operational effectiveness. You will bring an outside-in perspective on market, healthcare, and technology trends while helping teams converge on practical, value-driven architecture choices.
This role requires strong influence and innovative problem-solving to translate business needs into technology strategy and architectural direction. You will operate with high autonomy—executing from intent, not instruction—and proactively drive progress from problem framing through aligned decisions and outcomes as a trusted partner and advisor at all levels of the organization.
Depth in every domain is not required; success depends on establishing clear enterprise direction, connecting decisions across domains, and partnering effectively with domain, solution, platform, data, security, AI enablement, and operations teams.
KEY FOCUS AREAS:
Enterprise architecture across a portfolio of US Employer domains, connecting business strategy, capabilities, data, applications, platforms, and operations
- Cross-domain target states and roadmaps that clarify strategic direction, investment priorities, dependencies, and transition paths
- Shared enterprise capabilities and reusable patterns that reduce fragmentation, duplication, and unnecessary technology variation
- Data, integration, automation, and AI foundations that enable trusted information, interoperability, and scalable business change
- Portfolio modernization that balances growth, client and customer needs, operational effectiveness, resilience, risk, and technical debt
- Architecture governance and decision support that accelerate delivery while maintaining alignment to enterprise strategy and guardrails
DEFINITION OF SUCCESS:
- US Employer leaders have a clear, shared view of the target architecture, major transition choices, and implications for their domains.
- Domain roadmaps are connected across business capabilities, platforms, data, and operations, with key dependencies and trade-offs made explicit.
- Investment decisions favor reusable enterprise capabilities, intentional differentiation, and measurable business value over isolated point solutions.
- Architecture improves delivery speed, business agility, resilience, and cost effectiveness while reducing fragmentation and technical debt.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering or related field, advanced degree a plus
- 8+ years of experience in a software engineering, infrastructure, or architecture environment
- Demonstrated enterprise architecture experience delivering target-state architectures, capability maps, standards/patterns, and multi-year roadmaps (e.g., reference architectures, capability maps, roadmap milestones)
- Demonstrated track record of influencing enterprise decisions and delivering cross-functional outcomes across multiple business lines and technology teams
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Target state, roadmaps & reference patterns – Develop target-state architectures, roadmaps, and reference patterns that balance delivery, sustainability, and technical debt reduction across horizons.
- Portfolio value & investment choices – Optimize existing assets when fit-for-purpose, extend shared capabilities when needed, and pursue disruptive capabilities when they create step-change value.
- Cross-domain architecture – Define reusable enterprise patterns and integration approaches that connect capabilities across domain boundaries and support consistent, scalable business change.
- Executive-ready communication – Communicate architecture direction through clear artifacts and narratives, translating between executive goals and technical implications by adapting detail to the audience and focusing on decision-relevant information.
- Guardrails & adoption – Partner with Engineering and Solution Architecture to co-develop guardrails and reusable patterns, support solution design reviews, remove blockers, and accelerate delivery of prioritized outcomes by driving adoption through influence, coaching, and practical enabling patterns.
- Coaching, mentoring & inclusive culture – Coach and mentor architects and engineers to build architecture maturity and consistent practices across teams, fostering a culture of openness, transparency, and inclusion.
