Environmental Health Technician

Summary

About the Position: Serves as Environmental Health Technician to train, evaluate, and correct health and environmental problems that adversely affect Army missions throughout the Public Health Command- Pacific (PHCP) area of responsibility.

Duties

• •Train preventive medicine personnel on tasks necessary to prevent food, water, and vector-borne diseases, illness and injury from environmental exposures.
• •Provide instructions and guidance on the operation and maintenance of preventive medicine equipment used to detect, identify, and control food, air, water, and vector-borne diseases, and environmental contaminants.
• •Train preventive medicine personnel to conduct investigations to determine the source of outbreaks of diseases resulting from environmental hazards.
• •Prepare and review documents and records that establish procedures for proper sanitation, disease prevention, and a safe operating environment.
• •Conduct direct occupational and environmental health site assessments (OEHSA) and document findings in the Defense Occupational Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS) to support U.S. military public health units as needed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes delivering technical instruction on preventive medicine and environmental health hazards; conducting investigations to identify the sources of food, water, or vector-borne disease outbreaks; and performing direct occupational and environmental health site assessments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-8). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
