Pay Range: $40.00 to $45.00 DOE, with occasional OT

Summary

The Facilities Technician reports to and works directly with the Facilities Manager in overseeing the school’s Facilities Department.

The Facilities Department is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-maintained campus and provides support services to advance the school’s mission.

Responsibilities and Duties

Maintaining Building/Facilities

• •Partner with the Facilities Manager to maintain a safe, clean campus
• •Ensure timely completion of work orders and communication with requesters
• •Works with the Facilities Manager to inspect building structures, electrical panels, HVAC, and all facility equipment to determine if repairs are needed
• •Report any repairs and maintenance needs that arise to the Facilities Manager
• •Assist with maintenance of the garage and storage areas
• •Assist with the transport, disposal, or relocation of office equipment and furniture
• •Work in compliance with applicable building and safety codes, OSHA requirements, hazardous waste disposal requirements, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• •Assist with ordering supplies needed for daily operation and repairs, including cleaning supplies, paper products, batteries, etc, as needed
• •Ability to respond to emergencies outside of working hours
• •This role occasionally requires work in the evenings, on weekends, or during breaks, for special events

School Safety and Security

• •Assist with campus emergencies, including equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, and alarm calls
• •Knowledge of maintenance and operation of the campus fire alarm systems, fire protection systems, and security systems
• •Serves on Emergency Preparedness Teams as needed
• •Provide support to the security team as needed
• •Monitor and respond to 2-way radio calls at all times, while on the premises

Vendors

• •Maintain close and cordial working relationships with all vendors and contractors
• •Assist Facilities Manager with communication and supervision of vendors/contacts as needed

Administrative

• •Assist the Facilities Manager with documenting maintenance plans and repairs for all buildings
• •Maintain updated records in the facilities system that document equipment conditions, building repairs, vendor information, and maintenance plans
• •Communicate with staff and faculty regarding repairs and scheduling repairs at a time that has minimal disruption, when applicable
• •Complete required training annually - as assigned by the school

Project Management

• •Process event requests for various constituencies
• •Assist the facilities and security department in supervising renovations and construction projects as needed

Budgeting

Ensure value and savings when ordering supplies or requesting bids for repairs and maintenance

Technical Tasks

• •Open, prepare, and inspect the campus and its facilities each morning to be ready to receive staff and students
• •Repair, fix, and maintain buildings and equipment. Tasks include wall repair, plumbing work, painting, flooring repair and maintenance, electrical work, and HVAC
• •Perform repairs and facilities-related work, such as fixing broken furniture and locks, replacing outage lights, patching and repairing walls, and attending to plumbing emergencies
• •Facilities projects may also include small-scale design and custom builds
• •Help students and staff with projects that require power tools
• •Support the setup/Teardown of School events on a daily basis
• •Inspect all Restrooms for operational maintenance
• •Assist with traffic control during student drop-off and student pick-up as needed
• •Perform deep cleanings during school breaks
• •Install equipment and appliances as required by manufacturer specifications

Required Qualifications and Skills

• •Background in facilities and maintenance
• •Highly detail-oriented, combined with an ability to see and respond to the big picture
• •Ability to think outside the box for creative solutions
• •High emotional intelligence and ability/willingness to collaborate with myriad constituents
• •A forward-looking, solution-oriented approach to all facilities-related issues

• •Strong teamwork/communication skills
• •Basic IT skills

Preferred Qualifications

• •Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry
• •Experience with safely using power tools
• •School experience
• •5 years or more relevant experience
• •Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Working Conditions

• •20% Indoors, 80% outdoors
• •Ability to move around the school and playground to attend to individual matters and perform maintenance and repairs
• •Occasional requirement to lift more than 50 lbs
• •Sit and stand for an extended period of time
