Family Violence Support Worker

Full-time | Darwin Region, NT | SCHADS Level 4

Why this role matters

The Salvation Army's Family Violence Services in the Northern Territory supports women and children who have experienced, or are currently experiencing, family violence. Through our refuge and community-based programs, we provide safe, welcoming and supportive environments where victim survivors can begin to heal, rebuild their lives and work towards a future free from violence.

As a Family Violence Support Worker, you will play an important role in providing practical support, encouragement and stability during some of the most challenging times in a person's life. Every day brings the opportunity to help women and children feel safe, supported and empowered as they work towards greater wellbeing, independence and hope for the future.

About the role

We are seeking two passionate Family Violence Support Workers to join our NT Family Violence Services team, with positions being based in the Darwin Region. Working alongside Specialist Family Violence Practitioners and Team Leaders, you will support women and children accessing our services through crisis response, safety planning, case management support and practical assistance. You will play an important role in helping clients navigate challenges, access services and work towards achieving their individual goals in a safe and supportive environment.

These are permanent full-time positions within Family Violence Services, reporting to the Team Leader. Pay is in accordance with SCHADS Level 4.

How you will make an impact

Build positive and trusting relationships that promote safety, empowerment and wellbeing

Provide compassionate and responsive support to women and children accessing Family Violence Services

Assist with intake, risk assessments, safety planning and referrals

Support clients to implement case plans and achieve their identified goals

Advocate for and connect clients with community services, housing, health and other supports

Assist with crisis responses and practical support needs

Maintain accurate client records and documentation

Identify and escalate risks to ensure client and staff safety

Contribute to the day-to-day operation of Family Violence programs and refuge services

Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for clients

Help create safe, inclusive and culturally respectful spaces where women and children feel heard, valued and supported

What you will bring

Certificate IV in Community Services, Welfare, Community Development or a related field, or equivalent experience

Experience working within community services, family violence, homelessness or a related sector

A genuine passion for supporting women and children experiencing vulnerability and crisis

Demonstrated ability to provide trauma informed and client-centred support

Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills

Sound organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities

Strong written and digital record-keeping skills

Resilience, integrity and the ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations

Working with Children Check (Ochre Card)

NT Driver's Licence

First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
