Financial Services partner with all areas of the Commonwealth Bank to provide specialist advice on financial management and strategy. This advice covers finance, audit, treasury, investor relations, security, general procurement, and property.

Bankwest is an integral part of the CBA Group’s Retail Bank and operates as a distinct brand with a clear mandate within the CBA Group, to become a low-cost digital bank.

Bankwest Finance provides a key role in delivery of the strategy, as a key business partner that supports and challenges throughout the decision-making process.

Bankwest Finance provides financial information and business advice to support the Bankwest business in the transformation, ensuring sustainable long-term value for the Group.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer Retail Banking Services, the General Manager Bankwest Finance role leads a team of ~30 finance professionals who provide a range of accounting, financial and commercial services to Bankwest.

This role has responsibility for BW’s overall financial control framework, noting that several BW systems are stand-alone from the Group. This includes engagement with external auditors.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role will include:

• •Setting long term and short-term business plans and objectives; monitoring performance and advising the business on actions to address underperforming areas.
• •Providing commercial advice to the business on the drivers of value; ensuring business activities are value enhancing in the long term.
• •Oversight of a number of small subsidiary entities, including preparation of accounts and liaison with external audit teams.
• •Developing a deep understanding of the end-to-end business and product value chains. Understanding the economic drivers of the various components of the value chain.
• •Providing advice on pricing strategies and changes in product pricing.
• •Maintaining a strong financial control environment.
• •Appropriate management reporting for key business and CBA Group stakeholders.
• •Ensuring high data integrity by overseeing the effective operation of appropriate data controls.
• •Developing strategies and initiatives for effective capital management.
• •Enabling a strong team culture, ensuring growth and development of all team members.

Critical Skills and experience for success include:

• •Executive finance leadership experience in a financial services organisation. Experience with large groups with subsidiary operations would be advantageous.
• •Experience managing senior stakeholders across a diverse organisation.
• •High degree of resilience and ability to lead through complex change during periods of uncertainty.
• •Risk Mindset – All CommBank employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss, and act on current and future risks.
• •Strong commercial acumen and professional judgement.
