The Health & Wellness Promotion Coordinator position leads and manages Information, Education & Communication (IEC) efforts and Behavior Change Communication (BCC) strategies in a variety of projects throughout Winona State University. Responsibilities focus on the design, implementation and evaluation of these efforts for health and wellness promotion on campus using social media, target population level channels, interpersonal communication, and technology. A major focus of this position is on participatory learning and action to enable the empowerment of students. Primary topic areas include but are not limited to the following: holistic wellness, health and hygiene, prevention and proactive actions for well-being, addressing emotional issues, substance abuse prevention and early intervention, and other areas uniquely encountered by the student population.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide leadership on health & wellness promotion within Health & Wellness Services. Design and implement Behavior Change Communication strategies in partnership with relevant entities on and off campus. Evaluate all programs (oversee experiential learning opportunities, classroom projects/research, in-class presentations, peer health educator program, etc.) based on relevant public health policy and theory. Utilize American College Health Association’s (ACHA) Healthy Campus 2020 for planning, implementing, and evaluating effective health and wellness promotion programs across departments, disciplines, and community agencies. Leadership, marketing, and communication to engender behavior change through participatory, empowerment and capacity building techniques. Leading and directing health and wellness promotion needs, concerns, and resources from a prevention and early intervention framework utilizing evidence-based prevention and behavior change principles and programs. Demonstrating cultural competence and inclusiveness in working with diverse populations and cultures in addressing issues of diversity and health. Disseminate information via social media that is designed to increase awareness of current health and wellness concerns/issues and campus’ response to those issues regarding services and programs available.

2. Collaborate with the Director of Health & Wellness Services in ensuring compliance with the Federal DFSC Act & Amendments – completing the required Biennial Review and coordinating Campus efforts to comply with the Act (partnering with the VP of Student Life,, Residence Life, & Security, providing for prevention and early intervention activities).Monitor and conduct analysis of statistical data with regard to student’s health behavior, attitudes, and perceptions; assist in developing the strategic plan for Health & Wellness Services.

3. Empower students and encourage involvement by implementing peer education, advocacy and governance programs. Utilize social technology to reach students. Design and coordinate the delivery of customized presentations to students and internal and external constituencies on issues of student health, wellness and behavior.

4. Work collaboratively with academic departments, Residence Life, Counseling, and Fitness amongst others to assist and support them in efforts to enhance, motivate and prepare students for a successful healthy college experience.Promote campus wellness.

5. Serve as a university representative for student health and wellness issues on campus, local, state, and national committees, organizations and boards; and at conference presentations.

6. Manage health and wellness promotion budget and supervise student employees, including graduate assistants. Oversee Student Health & Wellness Advocates to act as liaisons for campus groups such as athletes and Residence Life staff, etc. (preventing excessive alcohol use/alcohol poisoning; referral mechanisms for sexual assault,).

7. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of Winona State University. Including but not limited to in an innovative and independent manner pursue potential funding sources for health and wellness promotion programs i.e. grants, collaborative agreements or partnerships with internal and external constituencies and serving as a resource person for students, faculty, and staff regarding college and young adult health and wellness concerns – responding to emails, phone calls, speaking requests, and interviews – providing current and factual health information.

Salary Range: $ 47,845-$93,809; Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Qualifications

• •Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or related field
• •Evidence of health education/health promotion, wellness and/or behavior change communication

Preferred Qualification

• •Masters’ Degree in Public Health or related field
• •Certified Health Education Specialist or equivalent
• •Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor
• •Experience working with multiple departments and disciplines
• •Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating health education programs, in higher education, with the understanding of campus wellness
• •Experience in utilizing current technology and social medial avenues.
• •Proven leadership, coordination, and networking skills
• •Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to persuade, negotiate, and influence opinion in promoting a healthy campus culture and environment
• •Knowledge of health and wellness promotion and student development theory, specifically substance abuse and college student behavior
• •Broad range of knowledge of health and wellness issues unique to young adults (AODA – including tobacco, sexual health, nutrition, fitness, stress management, self-care, mental health, etc)
• •Commitment to Participatory Learning and Action and various capacity building efforts.
• •Ability to provide early intervention programs, especially related to alcohol and other drug abuse (AODA)
• •Demonstrated public speaking skills, professional presentations, and/or teaching at the higher education level
