Heavy Equipment Operator (ENG - Streets Maint.)

Description

• •Operates backhoe, excavator, front-end loader, bulldozer and other equipment used in the maintenance of streets and the stormwater system.
• •Operates vehicles and equipment to transport equipment, tool and supplies to and from work sites.
• •Trims and prunes city trees; removes tree limbs and debris from streets and city property; installs trees and landscaping.
• •Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• •Assists in traffic control at work sites.
• •Installs and removes holiday decorations.
• •Performs related duties.

Requirements

• •Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street, tree, and stormwater system maintenance.
• •Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
• •Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
• •Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment.
• •Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
• •Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
• •Skill in oral and written communication.
• •Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• •Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• •Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
