Summary

About the Position: Lead a skilled team of mechanics maintaining heavy construction, engineering, and super-heavy material-handling equipment. You will distribute work, perform quality control, and execute complex diagnostics, overhauls, and repairs to keep critical tactical and depot operations mission-ready.

Duties

• •Serves as the working leader of more than three to five employees in accomplishing trades and labor work.
• •Works closely with team members setting the pace and passes on instructions received from supervisor and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led).
• •Insures plans, publications, material, and tools are available, and needed stock is available and obtained from supply locations.
• •Evenly distributes work load to team members and conducts in progress and final quality control inspections.
• •As a journeyman Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, performs the full range of General Support (GS) maintenance and repair of complex Military and Commercial equipment.
• •Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs engines, power trains, cross-drive transmissions, fuel injection, hydraulic, pneumatic, electro-mechanical, electro-hydraulic, and electronic control systems/components.
• •As required works on less complex vehicles, commercial and engineering equipment. Performs arc electrical/gas welding to effect minor repairs or modifications to equipment as required.
• •Performs 92-day unit level maintenance on 80 and 120 ton locomotives.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. Ability to lead the work of Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanics, demonstrated by my experience rebuilding, overhauling, tearing down, reassembling, repairing, testing, or modifying diesel-electric locomotives, railroad maintenance-of-way equipment, or similar heavy construction, engineering, and super-heavy material-handling vehicles and equipment. I have experience working with locomotive components (such as engines, braking systems, generators, or traction motors). - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT - The position meets the standard physical effort level across Grades 8, 10, and 11. The work requires standing, stooping, bending, climbing on large equipment, reaching in tight compartments, lifting and carrying heavy parts and assemblies weighing up to fifty pounds or more, and using overhead hoists and cranes for heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS - The position meets the standard working conditions across Grades 8, 10, and 11. Work is performed inside shops and outside in all weather conditions. The employee is exposed to drafts, noise, fumes, dirt, grease, solvents, and the danger of injury from heavy moving machinery, hydraulic pressure systems, and suspended loads.
