Description

Most people only notice payroll when something goes wrong. The best payroll people take that as a compliment. You might be one of them if you audit a timecard twice, know your COBRA timelines by heart, and keep confidential things confidential without being asked. If that's you, we'd like to meet you.

Marshall Community Credit Union is a $370 million, member-owned credit union with branches in Marshall, Coldwater, and Battle Creek. The HR & Payroll Coordinator will run payroll and benefits and keep our employee records in order. You'll also help with everything from the first job posting to an employee's last day. Every employee here will count on your work, and they'll all know your name.

What you'll do

  • Own bi-weekly payroll from start to finish. That means auditing timecards, deductions, and adjustments, and keeping us compliant with wage and hour requirements.
  • Handle benefits enrollments, changes, and terminations, working with our broker and vendors.
  • Help run annual open enrollment and stay on top of COBRA compliance.
  • Own employee records and personnel files in our HRIS and related systems, and keep them accurate, confidential, and compliant.
  • Prepare HR correspondence, including offer letters, status changes, and leave notices.
  • Support recruiting behind the scenes. You'll post openings, manage applicant tracking data, and help candidates and hiring managers through the process.
  • Coordinate new hire onboarding, including background checks, documentation, and checklists.
  • Track performance appraisals, disciplinary documentation, and required certifications and training records.
  • Support internal audits and regulatory reporting, including I-9, EEO, and AAP documentation.
  • Work with the HR Manager on department projects and initiatives.

Why you'll like it here

  • Real ownership. Payroll and benefits are yours, and you'll have the trust and room to run them well.
  • A small team that works closely together. You'll report directly to our HR Manager and work alongside our Training Team.
  • Hybrid flexibility. The role mixes onsite time for in-person employee support with the flexibility of a hybrid schedule.
  • A well-rounded HR career. You'll touch nearly every part of the employee lifecycle, which makes this a great place to build broad HR experience.
  • Work people feel. When pay is right and benefits are dependable, employees trust HR. You'll be a big part of that trust.

The busy seasons are predictable: payroll deadlines, open enrollment, and audits. Between them, you'll help with projects that make HR work better for everyone. If you like getting the details right and you like the people those details belong to, apply today.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in human resources, business administration, accounting, or a related field
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in payroll processing, HR support, or a related administrative role
  • Working knowledge of payroll and benefits administration principles and practices
  • Familiarity with employment laws, benefits administration, and HR documentation
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and HRIS/payroll systems (Paylocity experience a plus)
  • Financial institution or credit union experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management, especially around payroll deadlines, open enrollment, and audit cycles
  • A high degree of professionalism and discretion with confidential information
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to an inclusive workplace and to employee experience and well-being
  • Ability to work onsite as needed for in-person HR support, with occasional travel to other branches
  • Ability to work in an office setting, mostly seated, occasionally lifting up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to do extensive reading and detailed computer work with data and figures
