This vacancy is for a GS-0201-12, Human Resource Specialist (Military) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Military Personnel Policy Division (CG-1M11) in Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties

You will serve as a Human Resource Specialist (Military) and be responsible for providing military HR management advisory and technical service to Coast Guard managers on the approval and processing of personnel policies for all headquarters and field units. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Reviewing, researching, and analyzing program policies and responding to problems which impact the Policies & Standards program throughout the Coast Guard. Ensuring all military personnel related policies with pay implications are financially compliant with Coast Guard financial policy requirements, DHS financial reporting requirements and the policies providing guidance for military personnel and payroll business process owners to embed effective internal controls in their program procedures and practices Maintaining extensive contact and coordination with DoD officials, other government agencies, and commercial contractors. As needed, acts as the office liaison to the Coast Guard Recruiting Command, Coast Guard Personnel Service Center, and other stakeholders regarding personnel policy issues. Providing substantive information regarding military personnel policy entitlement matters to headquarters offices, field units, and other federal agencies. Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Human Resource Management - Experience with applying a wide variety of military Human Resource Management concepts, laws, regulations, principles, practices, precedents, sufficient to provide technical and advisory services on substantive organizational functions and work practices. Military HR Policy - Experience using interviewing, analytical, and research techniques to connect company/agency's missions, objectives, and procedures, and the applicable relationship to the Military Human Resources policies and SOPs. Written and Oral Communication - Experience utilizing written and oral communication skills sufficient to develop and deliver briefings, project papers, status/staff reports, and correspondence to managers and customers to foster understanding and acceptance of findings and recommendations.
