Infrastructure Engineer – Technical Lead (Windows/Active Directory)

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer / Technical Lead to support and maintain critical enterprise infrastructure environments while taking ownership of mid-level technical projects. This is a hands-on technical position with a project management component; it is not a traditional people-management role.

The successful candidate will spend a significant portion of their time performing hands-on infrastructure engineering, troubleshooting, administration, operating system support, patching, Active Directory administration, and vulnerability remediation. The role will also involve planning, coordinating, and reporting on technical infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory , solid operating system administration experience across Windows and Linux environments, and experience with enterprise patch management and vulnerability remediation. Familiarity with AWS and hybrid infrastructure environments is valuable, but the primary focus of this position is core infrastructure engineering and operations rather than cloud engineering or architecture .

Project management responsibilities will focus on planning, directing, coordinating, and reporting on mid-level infrastructure initiatives , such as operating system upgrades, patch rollouts, Active Directory activities, vulnerability remediation efforts, and similar technical projects. This role is not intended for candidates whose experience is primarily focused on people management, program management, cloud architecture, or large-scale infrastructure transformations.

This position requires a highly accountable technical professional who can serve as a trusted infrastructure resource, take ownership of critical work, provide technical guidance, and share knowledge with less experienced team members.

Key Responsibilities

• •Design, install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows Server 2019 and newer environments.
• •Perform hands-on Windows Server administration , including operating system configuration, system settings, services, networking, troubleshooting, and performance-related activities.
• •Administer Active Directory , including:
• •User and access management
• •Group Policy Object (GPO) creation and implementation
• •Organizational Unit (OU) administration
• •Domain and trust relationship configuration
• •Domain controller promotion and demotion
• •Active Directory troubleshooting
• •Design and implementation of new Active Directory environments

• •Support Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu environments, including core operating system administration, command-line operations, system configuration, troubleshooting, and basic shell scripting.
• •Troubleshoot infrastructure issues across Windows, Linux, Active Directory, networking, and related operating system components.
• •Support and maintain infrastructure hosted in AWS and other hybrid environments as required.
• •Manage operating system patching activities using enterprise patch management tools, including deployment group creation, scheduling, deployment, troubleshooting, and validation.
• •Conduct vulnerability scanning and remediation activities using platforms such as Rapid7 .
• •Analyze vulnerability scan results, identify operating system and infrastructure remediation requirements, and coordinate corrective actions with appropriate technical teams.
• •Develop and maintain project plans, milestones, action items, and deliverables for mid-level technical infrastructure projects .
• •Plan, direct, coordinate, and report on technical initiatives such as operating system upgrades, Active Directory activities, patch rollouts, and vulnerability remediation projects .
• •Create and present Plans of Action and Milestones (POAMs) and provide regular project status updates.
• •Coordinate meetings and work with infrastructure, security, application, and other technical teams to ensure timely completion of activities.
• •Identify project risks, dependencies, and potential delays and escalate issues proactively.
• •Maintain accurate documentation for infrastructure, projects, remediation activities, hardware, and software.
• •Develop and maintain tracking tools and reports using Microsoft Excel , including pivot tables, calculations, data comparisons, spreadsheet consolidation, and project trackers.
• •Serve as a primary technical point of contact for assigned infrastructure environments and coordinate issue resolution across multiple teams.
• •Monitor and maintain infrastructure environments to support availability, security, compliance, and operational requirements.
• •Provide technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and mentorship to less experienced team members.
• •Continuously learn new technologies and develop an understanding of the broader business and operational environment.

Required Qualifications

• •Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2019 or newer .
• •Advanced hands-on experience with Active Directory administration and architecture .
• •Strong understanding of Windows operating systems and enterprise server administration .
• •Working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu , including core operating system administration and troubleshooting.
• •Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues involving operating systems, Active Directory, servers, and related infrastructure components.
• •Experience with enterprise patch management and vulnerability remediation .
• •Experience with tools such as Ivanti and Rapid7 , or comparable platforms.
• •Demonstrated experience planning, coordinating, executing, and reporting on mid-level technical infrastructure projects , such as OS upgrades, Active Directory initiatives, patch rollouts, or vulnerability remediation efforts.
• •Working knowledge of AWS infrastructure and services , with an understanding of how enterprise infrastructure is supported in cloud or hybrid environments.
• •Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas/calculations, data comparison, and tracker development.
• •Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• •Excellent organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities.
• •Ability to work independently while effectively coordinating with cross-functional teams.
• •Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and understand complex technical environments.
• •Experience providing technical guidance, coaching, or mentorship to other team members.
