Title: Liquefied Natural Gas Shipping Route Scenarios - based on regional policy and changes in market conditions

LNG requires specialized infrastructure for storage and transport. Recent developments in the Middle East, make the world even more dependent on the Strait of Hormuz for gas supply. Qatar is currently expanding its LNG capacity. But every additional tonne of this LNG must transit the strait.Unlike transporting crude oil by pipelines, a bypass route for LNG would need a liquefaction plant on one side, a cryogenic pipeline or rail system, and a loading terminal on the other side. The cost would be tens of billions of dollars. So where else can the LNG come from? How will the LNG supply challenge evolve if the Strait of Hormuz does not open up?

Goals and objectives

Describe the purpose of the internship, including goals that are preferred to achieve.

This MSc project will create and analyse various scenarios on how the LNG supply chain routes may evolve if the situation in Hormuz continues. In addition, the project will examine the other major chokepoints for LNG transport across the globe and will expand the scenario study on them. The analysis will consider impact of regional policies on LNG import/export routes, changes in market demand and emissions that will be produced due to change in the supply chain routes.
