Intramural Program Administrator (part-time, 28 hours/week)

Student Wellness provides programs, education, resources, and facilities that promote life-long behaviors for a healthier, happier, and successful life. The Intramural Program Administrator is primarily responsible for the intramural officiating program and provides additional support for the department’s recreational sports and activities that serve the BYU campus community. The BYU Intramural Activities Program is one of the largest of its kind. Each year around 12,000+ students are involved in the program with roughly 2000 teams in 40+ activities.

What you’ll do in this position:

Management of the Intramural Officiating Program

• •Hires and terminates all intramural game officials
• •Facilitates training of rules, mechanics, and technical aspects of sport officiating
• •Promotes effective game management skills
• •Schedules official’s game and work assignments
• •Conducts regular training interviews and development sessions with staff
• •Manages program to evaluate officials
• •Compiles reports and video segments for staff evaluations
• •Resolves conflicts that arise
• •Models and promotes principles of good sportsmanship

Intramural Activity Programming

• •Administer several specific sports each semester
• •Event publicity, programming, and evaluation
• •Tournament scheduling and management
• •Interviews participants and mediates sportsmanship violations
• •Sport equipment acquisition, storage, and maintenance
• •Mentoring of student program coordinators

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

• •A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
• •Bachelor’s degree and an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• •Understanding of major team sport rules – ie. Basketball, Flag Football, Soccer, Volleyball
• •Ability to train and mentor student employees
• •Strong verbal and written communication skills
• •Ability to handle angry and upset people in a professional manner and maintain composure
• •Strong technical abilities including use of WorkDay and Microsoft Office suite
• •Initiative and good judgment and troubleshooting
• •Genuine interest in and an affinity for students and the student experience
• •Sensitivity to individuals from diverse backgrounds
• •Ability to collaborate with other athletic and sport/physical education entities on campus who serve students

Preferred:

• •A bachelor’s degree or higher in the field of recreation management, experience design, exercise and wellness, or a related recreation, student affairs or student development discipline.
• •Work experience in a recreational sports environment with proficiency directing and supervising student sports programs is strongly desired
• •Knowledge of recreational sports programming and tournament scheduling (preferred)
• •Excellent public relation skills

Typical Starting Pay: $28.50 to $37.25 an hour
