Duties

As an IT Specialist (Data Science), your duties will include: Develop and implement IT data science solutions for collecting, processing, storing, managing, and integrating complex data from diverse sources to support organizational and research requirements. Analyze large and complex data sets using statistical software, programming languages, and analytical methods to identify trends, evaluate information, and support data-driven decision-making. Develop and maintain data visualizations, dashboards, reporting tools, and other applications that enable users to explore, analyze, interpret, and communicate data. Evaluate and apply artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other emerging technologies to improve data management, analysis, automation, and IT solutions. Evaluate data management tools, applications, databases, cloud-based services, and other technologies to improve data integration, interoperability, quality, accessibility, and performance. Collaborate with scientists, researchers, IT specialists, data scientists and data driven professionals, and other stakeholders to identify requirements, address technical issues, and develop data and technology solutions that support research and organizational goals. Provide technical guidance and recommendations on data architecture, data governance, data science methods, analytical tools, and emerging technologies, and contribute to the development of data standards, strategies, and best practices.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for an IT Specialist (Data Science), GS-2210 position you must have: IT related experience demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience obtained in either the private or public sector, and/or completion of specific, intensive training that demonstrates all of the following four competencies: 1. Attention to Detail - is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail; and 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services; and 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; and 4. Problem Solving - identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations In order to qualify for an IT Specialist (Data Science),GS-2210 position at the GS-12 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector typically gained in the IT field or through performing IT related tasks such as: collecting and generating data, including assisting with the design or use of surveys or other scientific instruments to collect data; curating and processing data, including performing quality checks on data sets and other information sources to identify and address data issues; preparing or supporting the dissemination of data; identifying and resolving routine data performance and management issues; storing and managing high-quality data from diverse sources for use by decision makers; and analyzing comprehensive data sets using statistical software or programming languages (e.g., R, Python) to meet established business or program requirements. In order to qualify for an IT Specialist (Data Science),GS-2210 position at the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector typically gained in the IT field or through performing IT related tasks such as: collecting, generating, curating, and processing data from diverse sources; designing surveys or other scientific instruments for data collection; evaluating data quality and resolving complex data performance or management issues; managing, integrating, and disseminating high-quality data to support organizational or stakeholder decision-making; and analyzing large, multidimensional, or complex data sets using statistical software or programming languages (e.g., R, Python) to derive findings and support business or program decision-making.
