ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The KIDCO Recreation Worker provides direct supervision and recreational programming for children ages 5–11 in KIDCO After School, KIDCO Summer, and School's Out programs offered during school breaks. The position assists with planning and leads safe, structured, age-appropriate recreational activities, including games, sports, arts and crafts, and other group activities. The Recreation Worker maintains participant safety and accountability, reinforces positive behavior, and communicates appropriately with participants, parents/guardians, school personnel, and recreation staff.

Work is performed under the supervision of a Recreation Program Coordinator or designated site leadership. This position does not supervise employees

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitates recreational programs for up to 20 participants aged 5-11 by following pre-approved program planning and direction from the site lead. Assists with the creation of new activities or recreational program options.
  • Ensures safety of program participants by adhering to department policies and procedures and properly reporting accidents and hazardous conditions immediately to a supervisor.
  • Maintains constant and appropriate communication with participants’ parents or guardians, school personnel, and all recreation staff.
  • Inspects and cleans designated program areas to maintain care for equipment and facilities.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions

Indoor and outdoor work with some exposure to physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education
  • Some High School
  • Experience
  • Under one (1) year of relevant experience
  • Equivalency
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous paid or volunteer experience working with children ages 5–11 in a recreation, youth development, childcare, camp, school, or similar setting.
  • Experience assisting with or leading recreational activities for groups of children.
  • Experience maintaining participant safety, accountability, and positive behavior in a group setting
