Laboratory Operator I

To safely and efficiently carry out the duties of Lab Operator I with minimum direction and supervision.

What you’ll do:

• •Post secondary education in a chemistry related field, preferably completed two years Industrial Laboratory Technologist Course from a recognized institution.
• •Preferably a minimum of one year related laboratory experience.
• •Understanding of refinery process sample terminology.
• •Working knowledge of at least one computer system (WINDOWS).
• •Understanding of basic instrumental methods of analysis including Atomic Absorption, ICP-OES, Flame Photometry, pH meters, UV/Visible Spectrophotometer, X-RAY Fluorescence, FTNIR etc.

What you’ll need:

• •Demonstrate strong organizational skills while managing multiple demands.
• •Carry out all analysis/test procedures required for process control, shipping samples, environmental samples, mine samples, basic water analysis and other samples as required.
• •Use lab computer system to update and maintain daily analysis data files.
• •Operate analysis equipment and perform routine calibrations and adjustments.
• •Calibrate basic analysis equipment.
• •Prepare routine standard solutions.
• •Assist in adapting present lab procedures to fit new requirements as required.
• •Maintain all required laboratory statistics and records.
• •Understand and apply SDS information.
• •Recognize and identify discrepancies in analysis and procedures, and resolve these if appropriate.
• •Work day, afternoon and night shift as required or on a rotating basis.
• •Work effectively with a minimum amount of supervision in the Laboratory at K1 and K2.
• •Diligently adhere to all relevant legal environmental requirements.
• •Diligently ensure that all relevant OH&S requirements and in-house safety regulations are complied with.
