Job Description:

The Laser Drilling Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining precision laser drilling processes for advanced ceramic substrates used in semiconductor manufacturing. This position will focus on micro-drilling applications with tight dimensional tolerances, recipe development and automation, and batch drilling technologies to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce raw material utilization, and enhance product quality. The engineer will work closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Equipment Engineering to support new product introductions, process development, and continuous improvement initiatives using nanosecond and femtosecond laser systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, optimize, and sustain precision laser drilling processes for ceramic materials with micron-level feature sizes and tight dimensional specifications.

Create, optimize, and automate laser drilling recipes to improve process consistency, setup time, and manufacturing efficiency.

Develop and implement batch drilling processes to maximize equipment utilization and reduce raw material consumption.

Support process development for both nanosecond and femtosecond laser systems.

Evaluate and optimize laser parameters, including power, pulse frequency, pulse duration, focus, scanning strategy, and drilling algorithms to achieve required quality and throughput.

Develop, optimize, and sustain semiconductor manufacturing processes to improve yield, quality, productivity, and cycle time.

Support process qualification, validation, and implementation for new and existing products.

Establish and maintain robust process controls using Statistical Process Control (SPC), process capability analysis, and data-driven decision making.

Analyze manufacturing and metrology data to identify process improvements and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

Create and maintain engineering documentation, including work instructions, process specifications, FMEAs, control plans, and manufacturing procedures.

Support engineering change implementation (ECO/ECCB) and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.

Train manufacturing technicians and operators on laser drilling equipment, manufacturing processes, and best practices.

Collaborate with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Quality, and Equipment Engineering to resolve technical issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Provide hands-on support during equipment qualification, process validation, production ramp, and troubleshooting.

Lead continuous improvement projects focused on automation, yield improvement, cycle time reduction, and manufacturing cost reduction.

Education & Experience:

Minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience | Required

Pay Range:

$136,200.00 - $178,815.00

Pay Range Explained:

This role in Livermore, California pays between $136,200.00 and $178,815.00 per year, depending on your experience, skills, and background. Pay may vary in other locations. We offer a full benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, a 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), and paid time off. You’ll also be eligible for quarterly profit-sharing bonuses and flexible spending or savings accounts.
