Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT & Special Procedures) is assigned to the Veterans Healthcare System of the Ozarks, Radiology Service, Springfield, MO Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) and serves as the site's lead technologist, providing direct advanced diagnostic imaging in CT and X-Ray, and serving as the primary DRT for Pain Management (special procedures), Lung Cancer Screening exams and other complex procedures. Duties of the Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) include, but are not limited to: Functions as the primary technologist for pain management imaging procedures at Springfield, working independently and as part of the Pain Management care team providing C-arm fluoroscopic guidance for image-guided pain interventions Provides technical guidance, mentorship, and daily oversight for DRT staff at GS-9 and below at the Springfield, MO CBOC Schedules and monitors work assignments, ensuring adequate coverage across CT/General X-Ray and Pain Management. Makes daily adjustments as needed based on patient and procedural volume Acts as the primary point of contact for problem resolution involving staff workflow, equipment, protocols, and patient care in the assigned modalities Participates in new employee orientation, on-the-job training, and competency assessments for DRT staff within the CBOC Performs a complete spectrum of CT imaging, including but not limited to: Head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, extremities, angiography, and 3D/multiplanar reconstructions as required. Performs general diagnostic radiology (x-ray) exams as needed, including portable studies when required, and maintains appropriate certification Prepares and administers contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist/physician, ensuring patient safety and accurate documentation Performs daily and pre-operational quality control/management checks on all assigned imaging and procedural equipment; coordinates repair, maintenance, and preventative maintenance as needed Accurately documents all examinations and procedures in the electronic health record (EHR), PACS, and any other required system Demonstrates independent judgment in the performance and prioritization of all assigned imaging and procedural work, varying or modifying protocols as necessary to accommodate patient status, special needs, or non-routine clinical requests Provides patient education regarding procedures; ensures age/developmentally and culturally appropriate care Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm (Subject to change based on the needs of the service) Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized EDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply for incentive. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for appointment, the following criteria must be used when determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates: Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-10 Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): Ability to provide feedback to supervisor on technical aspects of work. *Ability to resolve informal employee complaints *Ability to monitor and report on the status and progress of work and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established procedures.
