the posting

We're reimagining the way Australians live, work, and play. We own and manage some of the most recognisable and loved retail destinations across Australia.

We’re evolving our portfolio into destinations that offer a broad selection of retail, residential, and office spaces. Through our diverse portfolio, data-led decision-making, and nationwide development pipeline, we do things differently.

We are Vicinity.

Role purpose

We’re looking for a commercially minded and proactive Mall Leasing Business Development Executive to join our Mall Leasing team.

This is a true business development role where you’ll be responsible for identifying new retailers, brands and concepts and bringing them into Vicinity’s shopping centres through pop-up stores, kiosks, activations and other short-term leasing opportunities.

You’ll actively build your pipeline through prospecting, cold calling, networking, market visits, expos and your own industry connections. From identifying an opportunity through to negotiation and close, you’ll take ownership of the relationship and work with our centre teams to deliver the right commercial outcome.

Importantly, it’s not just about filling space. You’ll help curate the right mix of retailers and experiences for each centre, improving presentation, strengthening the customer experience and identifying emerging brands that could ultimately become permanent Vicinity retailers.

What you’ll be doing

  • Proactively identify and secure new retailers, brands and business opportunities
  • Build and manage a strong sales pipeline across your portfolio of shopping centres
  • Prospect through cold calling, networking, centre visits, competitive market research and industry events
  • Negotiate and close short-term leasing and brand activation opportunities
  • Drive growth in mall leasing revenue, occupancy and site rates
  • Develop relationships with new, existing, national and emerging retailers
  • Identify successful pop-up retailers with potential to transition into permanent leasing opportunities
  • Partner with Centre Management, Leasing, Marketing and other internal teams to deliver the right retail mix and customer experience
  • Monitor market trends, new concepts and emerging brands to uncover future opportunities
  • Manage CRM activity, pipeline reporting and forecasting through Salesforce
  • Ensure activations and retailers meet presentation, operational and compliance standards

What will you bring?

We’re looking for someone who enjoys the hunt as much as the close. You’ll be comfortable approaching new businesses, building relationships from scratch and turning conversations into commercial opportunities.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • 2+ years’ experience in business development, sales or a commercially focused role
  • A demonstrated track record of achieving or exceeding sales and revenue targets
  • Confidence with prospecting, cold calling, negotiation and closing deals
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial and financial acumen, including exposure to budgets, targets and forecasting
  • An interest in retail, brands, consumer trends and the changing retail landscape
  • Strong organisation and pipeline management skills
  • Experience using a CRM such as Salesforce
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across multiple internal teams

Experience within retail, shopping centres, property, media, activations or commercial leasing would be advantageous, but we’re equally interested in strong business development professionals from other industries who can demonstrate the right commercial mindset and ability to build new business.

  • PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES (who you are)
  • You consistently demonstrate and role model the behaviours that bring the Vicinity values to life:

Respect:

  • We listen to and acknowledge each other's views
  • We have difficult conversations with care

Integrity:

  • We back our words with the right actions
  • We do the right thing, no matter the situation

Customer Focus:

  • We nurture a genuine connection with our customers
  • We consider customer needs when making decisions

Collaboration:

  • We invite the right people to the table
  • We balance consensus with decisive actions

Excellence:

  • We always strive to improve
  • We share our challenges and celebrate the wins
