Materials, Corrosion & Coating Engineer

ONSITE in Berkeley, CA

Domain-Specific Skills

Coating and finish selection such as powder coat, paint, e-coat, galvanizing, plating, and conversion coatings.

Corrosion mechanisms, chemical compatibility, electrolyte resistance, environmental exposure, and durability.

Materials selection and manufacturing-process compatibility for metallic and polymer components.

Qualification planning, test-method definition, failure analysis, and supplier technical evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

Benchmark lower-cost coatings and finishes against functional and durability requirements.

Evaluate corrosion protection, chemical/electrolyte resistance, manufacturability, quality, and lifecycle risk.

Recommend materials and coating systems by component and exposure condition.

Define specimen testing, acceptance criteria, and qualification evidence with customer or test provider.

Support root-cause analysis for coating, corrosion, adhesion, and material failures.

Required Skills / Experience

5+ years of materials, corrosion, coatings, chemical, or surface-engineering experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.

Demonstrated experience selecting and validating coatings for industrial or transportation products.

Knowledge of corrosion testing, coating qualification, material compatibility, and failure analysis.

Salary Range: $120,000-$140,000/K

The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience
