Mechanical Engineer - Electrical Packaging

Introduction of the job

As a Mechanical Engineer - Electronics Packaging specialist you will specify, design, develop, realize, integrate, and test modules and tools in a multi-disciplined team, collaborating closely with cross-functional partners and suppliers. You will deliver within system specifications, cost targets, and project schedules, ensuring timely realization of solutions that contribute to competitive, achievable, and serviceable products. The Mechanical Engineer provides discipline specific expertise throughout the entire product life cycle. This Includes concept feasibility, new product introduction, existing product sustainment and customer facing problem resolution. The position requires highly motivated, extremely organized, and self-driven individuals.

As job grade increases, the role expands from executing well-defined engineering work to leading technical scope, realizing complex modules, driving roadmap direction, and steering teams across multiple complex designs to ensure system-level integration and delivery.

You will take the lead in developing complex parts of modules and deliver technically complex solutions with full ownership, considering industrialization and cross-team impacts. Collaborate across multiple teams, lead interfaces with suppliers and other disciplines in less defined environments and guide a small group of peers through technical execution.

Design:

Ability to design and document all aspects of the electrical infrastructure including:

AC, DC, Main power distribution (panel boards, boxes and cabinets)

Interconnect cables, bundles and connectors (harnessing)

Electronic racks, cabinets, control consoles

Interfacing with printed circuit board designs

Modeling of flex and rigid PWB’s including volumes and critical part locations

Experience designing electronic enclosure assemblies

Experience in sheet metal design

Experience designing for manufacturability (DFM) and developing assembly work instructions for low to medium volume products

Experience with 3D solid modeling for design conceptualization and realization (preferred experience using NX)

Experience supporting design fit check during integration & testing of electrical & electronic systems at the module, sub-system & system level

Knowledgeable of industry codes and standards (i.e. NEC 70, NFPA 79, Machine Tool Standards)

Knowledge of FEA is a plus

Working knowledge of wiring diagrams and schematic diagrams

Working knowledge of design drafting best practices including geometric dimensioning

Perform dimensional and tolerance analysis as needed

Technical Writing: Define and Document Specifications and Design Decisions

Test & Integration:

Design, Develop and Build Product Specific Test Tooling

Test Validation and Verification (V&V) of Product Requirements

Plan and Execute Component Level Testing & Sub-module Integration

Plan and Execute Module Level and System Level Integration

Technical Writing: Define and Document Test Procedures, and Test Reports

Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will contribute to engineering deliverables that scale with job grade, from executing defined tasks and supporting senior engineers to owning complex technical scope, coordinating cross-functional work, and leading program-level outcomes.

Identify, analyze, document, and manage requirements with traceability, and coordinate verification criteria to confirm deliverables meet intent.

Conduct research and feasibility studies, document findings, and translate results into recommendations, tradeoffs, and decision inputs.

Develop engineering concepts and solutions, make technical choices, and resolve issues to meet functionality, performance, cost, and compliance needs.

Define and communicate specifications and high-level designs, align interfaces, and support reviews and approvals to enable quality execution.

Support system or product integration by coordinating dependencies, applying configuration management, and enabling smooth project execution.

Define and execute validation and test approaches, improve methods and procedures, and ensure qualification evidence supports release of readiness.

Estimate effort, plan and track work, manage risks and dependencies, and deliver assigned work packages or projects to agreed quality and timelines.

Maintain accurate technical documentation, share knowledge through coaching and mentoring as applicable, and follow EHS policies while identifying and mitigating safety risks.

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. MS or PhD preferred.

Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience required.

Preferred knowledge and experience using design software and technical tools include:

3D CAD (NX preferred)

DMS (Teamcenter preferred)

Integration, Verification & Validation (V&V) Execution: Ability to plan and execute verification and validation, ensure qualification evidence supports release readiness, and support system/product integration by coordinating dependencies and applying disciplined configuration/traceability to deliver working, testable solutions.
