Medical Laboratory Scientist Technical Specialist - Lab Support - Trenton - Full Time - Days

The listed pay range or pay rate reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time).

Position Overview

SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

Assists Section Head with activities within the designated laboratory section to consistently generate accurate and reliable test results. Assists supervisor with meeting regulatory requirements. Participates in operational planning, reviewing data and inspecting instrument performance. Performs specialized assigned projects to implement new instrumentation and test methods, achieve quality testing results, to operate in a fiscally responsible manner, to achieve operational efficiency and to adhere to established policies, practices and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory sciences or a science related field. (CLS) preferred. ASCP or equivalent certification in CLS.

Experience: Five years clinical laboratory experience with responsibility for instrument troubleshooting, interface builds, supply chain management and statistical analysis in a hospital clinical chemistry laboratory, for Chemistry Specialist or in a hospital clinical hematology and coagulation, fluid and urinalysis laboratory for Hematology Specialist.

Other Credentials: ASCP or equivalent

Knowledge and Skills: Excellent communication skills. Ability to use spreadsheets, solve technical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Special Training: Intermediate computer skills. National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) program, preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• •Performs daily Quality Control (QC) review, establishes new QC ranges for new reagent lots, submits and reviews monthly quality data, sets up new lot QC correlations, and establishes QC ranges for new QC lots.
• •Participates in an offsite College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspection and acts as lead contact within the designated laboratory section during an onsite CAP inspection.
• •Reviews, assigns and submits surveys as needed. Assists in biases and failed survey responses.
• •Performs accuracy, precision, carry over, reference range, auto dilution checks, linearity and instrument to instrument correlation studies.
• •Assists in building new laboratory tests in the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Performs annual LIS instrument auto-verification validation and reports all calculations.
• •Investigates and responds to reagent and instrument recalls. Investigates customer complaints related to the section.
• •Attends key operator training when assigned. Assists with education of staff members.
• •Reviews errors with staff for non-compliance issues and workflow improvements.
• •Submits monthly section orders, inventory, and annual standing orders.
• •Assists section supervisor with communication and instructional emails and information to staff.
• •Attends and participates in LDM and special project meetings.
• •Performs bench testing on weekends, holidays and emergency staffing situations.
• •Attends seminars and symposium and shares new information with staff.
• •Performs other duties as needed.
