Summary

This position is located in the Purchase/Referred Care (PRC) of the IHS Service Unit. The purpose of this position is to provide support services and assistance by performing medical support assistance duties, record keeping and miscellaneous clerical support duties associated with beneficiaries. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Duties

Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Medical Support Assistant Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Coordinates Activities and Communications - Reviews patient information to help determine eligibility for care, rules and regulations, the service delivery areas, tribal membership and residence. Supports staff in examining alternate resources for patients under the program and screens for patient eligibility through the Medicare, Medicaid, Vocational Rehabilitation, V.A., private insurance or other third-party programs. General Clerical Tasks - Provides clerical assistance in the reports and monitoring the cases. Types letters and memoranda. Prepares responses and routine correspondence and compile information concerning contract services for submission to patients.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-04 one year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position at the GS-4 level. OR Education 2 years above high school GS-05 at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Providing support services to include performing clerical duties, serving as receptionist and assisting with technical services in a health care setting. Working with customers to obtain verification of third-party eligibility, i.e., Medicare, Medicaid and/or private insurance; Maintaining record confidentiality and safeguards medical information; Initiating and submitting all mandatory correspondence and reports to the supervisor. OR Education 4 years above high school Education: Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-3 through GS-5 for all positions except Reporting Stenographer, GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
