This vacancy is for a GS-0545-7, Military Pay Technician located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, PPC RETIREE and ANNUITANT SERVICES BRANCH in TOPEKA, Kansas.

Duties

You will serve as a Military Pay Technician and be responsible for the establishment, maintenance and termination of a variety of military accounts, for auditing and correcting leave and pay accounts, reviewing and researching payroll control reports, responding to message traffic, processing regular and supplemental payrolls, and handling miscellaneous adjustments and corrections to members' pay accounts. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Reviewing and processing final actions to resolve various complicated pay problems using a variety of techniques for military pay actions related to retired and annuitant pay. Reviewing and updating system modules and indebtedness transactions to ensure that regulatory provisions of statutes are applied correctly. Verifying transactions are mathematically accurate, contain proper accounting data, and are in compliance with federal laws and regulations. Utilizing the automated payroll system to research accounts and determine whether adjustments are necessary. Computing the rates of pay and determines proper pay tables to be used for calculating pay related to retiree and annuitant specializations. Processing account discrepancies to correct payroll accounts which could not be updated through the automated system. Calculating pay entitlements and inputs appropriate transactions to credit or debit the member's pay account. Receiving inquiries of a routine and complex nature from customers concerning payroll and personnel matters. Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Identifying and processing payroll and personnel actions, using automated payroll systems. Conveying information to others orally and in writing, preparing forms, forms letters, reports, and other correspondence. Researching and analyzing program policies. Knowledge of military payroll policies, rules and processes.
